Timing chain / belt

Good day.

Can anyone advise if the 320i F30 BMW has a timing chain or belt? And when is this usually replaced?

Thanks
M

Hi,

Use realoem.com to check your engine spec with your VIN number

thank you. It shows as a Timing Chain. Anyone know if these are recommended to be replaced at certain intervals? Or do they usually last the lifespan of the car?

I stand to be corrected but I dont think BMW's use timing belts. These are common on small hatchbacks and VW/Audi's. They seldom need replacement expcept with high mileage, say 300,000km.

Thank you Yush and Nick. That sounds awesome.

Maybe one of you can advise on the Motorplan. The original motorplan expires next month. The car has just over 76000Km and next service is in June or 9000km.

I checked BMWOWNERSCIRCLE to extend the motorplan and to extend for 12 months and still at 100000km is +/- R17000. I expect to do about 20000km a year, if at a push, I might do about 25000km. So I think I will reach maximum just on 100000km by next year February.

If I am thinking correctly, within the next year I will only do the one service in June, unless something goes unexpectedly wrong with the car.

Is it worth taking the extension on the motorplan, or not?

I have only had the car for the last month.

Thanks

I say look a an aftermarket warranty. It will work out cheaper and will cover a good portion of the cost in the unlikely event event something goes wrong.
