Why are there so many people up in arms about Toyota using a BMW motor in the Supra?
If Mclaren had to use a BMW motor in their new cars, everybody would be rejoicing and throwing parties at every street corner.

I think its just cause the SUPRA name is put on a pedestal as this mythical godlike creature.

Now we have a new one and we all cant move on. (tuna sandwiches and all)

Its like we all prefer the NA M3's over the new boosted ones.

They had a HUGE name to live up to, to make the next Japanese Legend and we got a fruit salad.

Lets not forget the last time the japs and the germans had a colab, it didnt end well.

Not a Toyota, not a Supra, still think it's pretty good looking. The Supra is supposed to be a GTR rival, this isn't. It's in a spot between the GTR and something like a 86.

I really like the styling.

It has elements of the old Supra, e86 Z4 Coupe, and an Alfa 4C.

Way better than the hideous new Z4.

Its kind of sad they didnt rather opt for the S55 in the state of tune for the M4 GTS since they unashamedly dug in the BMW parts bin

+1 this one left me scratching my head as well. If you're going to resurrect the hallowed Supra name, and you're going to collaborate with another manufacturer, then surely you put something more special into it... unless they are planning a future enhanced model with an S55/58 perhaps?

The fact that is basically a sexy Z4 coupe makes me happy.

Also prepare for great times ahead as the Jap tuners quickly develop mods for the Supra... and considering the rest of the car from the B58 to the transmission and software is BMW, this can only be a good thing. Prices of modding for x40i owners could come down dramatically. At the very least there will be an improvement in the variety of options and applications coming soon. Imagine taking a (hypothetical) HKS GT500 turbo kit for the Supra and bolting it onto your 340i luxury line with 18s :roflol:

I'd still have this over the Z4! :cartel: Something is very wrong with that car's styling :skit:

I agree with this statement, the new Z4 looks kak the back is cool but the front is hideous and the roof is a downgrade from the E89. Toyota supra all the way for me thanks!

Jirrrr, Shame on you Toyota, sies man!

What a pathetic excuse is this to borrow an engine from another brand, when any petrol head knows you have the engineering capability to build something magical in house?!

Pure lazyness, I hope the engineers all commit seppuku for being a disgrace to Japan !

It's as if they said: "nah, we too lazy to make something better than the old Supra, what other options do we have?"

BMW has been very lazy with mini from the start, bro.

Seems I am a lone ranger here, I don't like the busy lines of the supra(concept or production). I do find the z4 very pleasing, the lines are more elegant,it will age much better than the supra.

The current 6 series and the new z4 might be the best designs bmw have to date . The m8 has nice lines but suffers from same horrible bumper design the m2 has.

Automakers using each others parts, meh nothing new here. At least toyota has started to make sportscars again. Maybe we can start to see them in racing again as well, other than the wrc.

It's a public forum. There are all types here. The funky, youthful, young at heart people who like to embrace change and new designs and ideas. And then you get the old conservative pensioners such as yourselves

Just kidding :smilebounce:

Maybe there's a reason Toyota didn't use the S55.
Maybe it's because they plan on using it in an upgraded model, or maybe BMW didn't want to sell it to them because it may kill M4 sales.... It's a possibility.
