Thoughts on new Supra

Hi Guys,

So would be keen to hear what you think about the new Supra or fake Z4 :roflol:

Basically for those who dont know most of the car is a BMW on a Z4 chassis

Why not do it true Toyota style, or rather give us a Toyota 86 with a Lexus motor or something in it and a few cosmetic changes, and call that a Supra :dunno:

I love the design especially the thing they have going on at the back like a Ferrari 812 Superfast. Also you call it a fake BMW but what is wrong with that?

BMW already makes amazing engines and they have been used in many applications successfully. If it works, why make a whole new engine when the kings of 6 Cylinders already have one suitable for the application :dunnoanymore:

it looks good , basically its a new Z4 coupe sharing the underpinnings , 40i engine, transmission and even the same switch gear.
IMO it looks better.

I suppose it didn’t live up to all the hype over the years but that’s ok

The mk4 base supra was also a good platform to start off with. It’s all the mods and the bullet proof motor that made it an amazing car

This for me is an awesome base. Can’t wait to see how this gets modified.

It’s bigger than the 86 I think which is why the 86 would not have worked as a replacement.

Looks like they are using the b58 ? from the specs it says a 6cyl 3.0 twin scroll turbo with 250kw.

I think the n54,n55 and now b58 are in the same vein of tuning potential as the original 2jz.

Maybe not exactly the same, But a great engine to underpin a "Tuners" car.

Plus it looks awesome, like a concept car.
IF only Toyota can keep it under a mil.

With the stupid big grill design theme that BMW is taking, it's only a good thing as Toyota designs of late are (subjectively) becoming very good. You get the best of both worlds - BMW engineering, Toyota design.

Personally, I love it. Just hope it comes to SA.

I was very excited about this car, but im pretty let down by the looks.

Car manufacturers always release this epic looking prototype, which is the case here ( as per dirtydeedsmans post ) , and then the actual model that gets released is like its retarded brother.

I heard that the Z4's 2.0i (140kw or 190kw?) motor will also be available in the base Supra...
