Thoughts on buying a 2009 135i

Hi all, i am new to the forum and have been reading around and this seems like the place to be :)..

I have a friend who is selling his 2009 135i e82 automatic with 73000k on the clock..

I would like to know peoples thoughts on this car's possible reliability considering its age and mileage and how its been driven? it has a full service history and i will post a pic of the repairs just done as well as the last few motorplan replacements.. the extended motorplan has just finished and thats why he is selling..

This car has been driven (almost exclusively) like a granny with it only being pushed maybe once or twice (i may or may not have been driving), which i thought would be a good thing, but i have read and heard otherwise that this may be a bad thing as they are meant to be driven hard.. Could anyone elaborate on this?

Any other thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.. i am coming from a 1.4 getz so this is hopefully gonna be quite the upgrade :O..

Thanks all!! :ty:

:skit: 1.4 Getz to 135i - beeg difference.

Your biggest concern will be fuel consumption., these cars are very thirsty as for the rest 73000 is still fairly new should be no issues.

I went from a 2004 VW Citi Golf 1.6 to a 2011 330d, the difference is going to blow you away OP!

Good luck bud.

PS: Fuel consumption is a biaaatch on those x35i motors.

Its a performance car and should be enjoyed, if you wana drive it like a granny, keep the Getz :skit:
That said Get the full Mplan Report and see if there are any other issues and just how troublesome the car was.
also note these cars can be temperamental , so it would be nice to keep a buffer just incase.
if I were you and could afford it without getting rid of the Getz that would be perfect.
Getz as a daily , 135i to arouse your senses.

This is a great car but as mentioned above the car can be temperamental. From the history I see that the Water pump has been changed. That is something that goes in these cars at about 60k km. The HPFP, thermostat and injectors can be an issue. The wastegate rattle and the turbo seals are another issue that can creep in. Search the forum on discussions on this topic.

Now don't let all of this put you off completely. I've had my N54 for 4 months now and have done 6k km so far. It is a great drive and really puts a smile on your face. Get an after market warranty and make sure you don't hammer the car while it is still cold and let it idle for a minute or two when switching off.

From the list above some of the major issues have been fixed, it has a new water pump which should be the new revised pump, the cam bearing ledge has been done as well so they would have used the newer Teflon component.

Just check that all the recalls were done, i would get more info on what the drive train issue was.

Listen for any waste-gate rattle when revving the car.

Thanks for the reply :) Haha i am saying the previous owner drove it like a granny (and i pushed it maybe once while he owned it), which i heard was maybe not great, as they are meant to be pushed. i intend to now start pushing it when i get it at 73000.. so im wondering if there's any reasons not to buy and start pushing an older car which isnt used to that treatment?

Also i will do my own reading, but would you mind me posting the rest of the Mplan report here for a backup opinion? just in case theres something i miss. (i am new to this, so not super informed but eager to learn)

and yea that would probably be better to keep both, but i dont think it will be possible unfortunately..

Hi, sorry for the noob question, but drive train issue? Is this relating to the repair that was done or one of the motorplan items? As far as i am aware the repair was just supposed to be for that cam bearing ledge.. :hmm:

I am planning to try go to the dealer tomorrow and chat to the mechanic who worked on the car and get more details about it though.

Besides that 2 fuel injectors were replaced near the beginning, and the hpfp hasnt failed yet.. Is there a benefit to replacing this as a preventative measure? or is it fine to wait until it fails? (also does anyone know whether the extended warranty on this was extended to SA?

Thanks again :ty:

The drive train error usually refers to the gearbox. Have that checked out.

The HPFP should be changed as part of a recall, PM John at Leo Hease he can make sure that all recalls on the car has been done.
