Thoughts of buying a high kms n54 335i

It’s hard to say as some N54s are strong give little crap as they are indeed strong engines. As long as common stuff like the HPFP issues, injectors (misfires) and turbo rattle are absent the engine may be in goodnick. Those can go wrong on any n54 at any given time.

Issue is at this age, you going to be looking issues beyond those such as suspension bits and sensors failing. These do get quite pricey.

Be patient, you will find one that will be right.

Thanks man. i am sure i will  . I look around daily but so many guys are trying to sell emotions (over trade value)...

And i find allot of these cars have been in accidents and mileage been cut down is a big problem in jhb/pta area. People seem to think its "OK" to -100000kms.. of the clock. Thanks to a guy i know at bmw that runs the vin numbers for me... and then i see EVERYTHING that happen to the car for at least the 1st 5 years often more.

I have even seen cars that have been shot at in jhb when i run vins lol!
and the owners claim to not know until i mention the almost R50k repair.., I wish there were less crooks out there and more honest people.

My E92 335i has 204000km. Pushed 196kw/439nm in stock form 11 years later.
It was fully blown previously and held the N54 1/4 mile record at one stage.

The key here is maintenance and having a proper warranty in place. For the price you gonna pay it is a lot of car you getting.

No chance of me selling my car below trade value either :skit:

Under retail maybe, but not a chance under trade.

You can easily get around retail for your car.

Book values don’t take into account the condition or mileage of your specific car and instead only consider your vehicle to be in fair condition with average mileage (25k per year iirc) when determining book value. All cars of the same year are therefor equal, which isn’t actually the case.

Therefor if your car is exceptionally clean with lower than average mileage you definitely have full right to ask what you realistically feel it is worth (taking into account retail value as a base for setting your price of course).

Remember, BMW’s (and other brands) book value decreases more rapidly than Toyota for instance already, so with that in mind, why would you expect to pay even less than the calculated book value for a decent example?

That is true if the car is full house idrive, heated seats, paddle shift , keyless start ect. and under 120000-130000kms with fsh from bmw and no wastegate rattle yes it can be worth retail or even more but that is very very rare . And most of the 335i cars for sale arnt like that most of them are half speced and not far from 200000kms and are in fair condition due to the age. And don't have a complete service history. Yet some guys still think its worth retail lol.

like you said most cars do 25000kms a year.

And that puts most 07-08-09 cars close to and well over 200000kms at that point they arnt worth more than trade value at most! (unless fsh with bmw) just due to the possibilitys of more problems to come. And most people don't buy a car with such high kms. (Unless it has a fsh with bmw still) Once or twice a year i see a good deal but it normaly sells within a week.

Im just looking to buy it from a (older) guy that does not know what the car is capable of with mods. (So he will value it less than a bmwfanatic) For just more than trade (since bmw won't give them a cent more than trade on such a old car if they had to do a trade in) i buy and sell cars i know the trade... bargains come and go.

I have seen a 2008 e90 with 171000kms go for R92500... I was just not ready for it at the time and it was a jhb car. Now a stealership are selling that car for R139000.... Why pay allot if you can get a bargain if you wait and look in patients. :fencelook:
