This is my Ride

Hi. I am Leon and new to the site. Guess I will not be loved by many but to me my car is best of all worlds ... fantastic chassis (BWM) with a fantastic engine (Toyota 2JZ)

I built it as a track day car and street bruiser. Specs:
E46 CI 2002 (used to be 325)
Toyota 2JZ engine, Garret GT35, 1000cc injectors, ARP's, Cometic, standard internals, custom exhaust branch, e-Boost 2 controller, Domingo’s display and lots of other go faster bits. It will be tuned 2nd week in October and expecting 420 to 450 kW (570 to 610 hp) on the wheels
E46 M3 6 speed manual box
Original 325 diff with LS mod (this diff and gearbox combination has a theoretical top speed of 335 km/h at 7000 rpm)
Megan coil over suspension
Full roll cage
Carbon fibre - roof, bonnet, boot, door cards, dash, seats

Some serious money has been spent there, nicely done! But please don't tell me those are stock brakes I see there...
Can we see some pics under the bonnet?

What a magnificent beast :praise:

I like that menacing (matt)black on black look. Very sinister, like a black hole driving past :cartel::cartel::cartel:

Where, how, and how much did it cost?

Awesome track car BTW:clapper:
Isnt it a little difficult to control mid corner with the sudden torque spike when that big turbo finally spool up?

Do you know how much weight has been saved from all the carbon work and interior re-work?

Really nice build, very unassuming from the outside....and please lets see some of that 2JZ magic :skit:

Thats a drift car, its supposed to do that.:hammerhead:

Notice the added rear calipers for the hydraulic e-brake?

Thanx for all the commentary. To reply on some of them:

I gave the diff to a gearbox and diff guy. The nice thing about BMW diffs is that the internals are quite interchangeable. I actually saw a post in here on BMW diffs and which ones are interchangeable. I would however not recommend the guy that did mine.

The brakes in front are 6 pod Vari's on approximately 320 mm ventilated discs ... should stop ... I hope. Rear is standard except for the extra callipers (well spotted Gizmo). However, its not a drift car. It was the first drift car I built but BMW's like going around corners facing the right way (good for racing) not sideways (bad for drifting) and I did not have the skills to master it so opted for Nissans for drift cars. Now I have 3 of those that like going sideways. I left the hydraulic brake in there because its an awesome tool to have once you have mastered its use.

When the BMW engine was still in there, it only made 270 kW on wheels but was already a handful. To solve that problem with 420+ kW I fitted an e-Boost controller. It has up to 6 boost settings and one of the options is to have buttons on the steering wheel, one for up and one for down. I can therefore take the boost down to low setting as I enter a corner and once the nose is in the right direction I can bump the boost up again.

I dont know what weight I have saved but the seat weigh about 5 kg each including brackets and padding as opposed to the original 35 kg, the roof at least saved 30 kg with that heavy sunroof, the harness at least 20 kg etc etc. So one day I will weigh it but not expecting as much as you may think. It just looks so very cool ... and is light.

Pics of the engine ... almost done. And yes, even the cover is carbon Fibre. All CF bits you see are real CF.

Lots of money spent here. Don't necessarily like it, specially the "theoretical top speed" but I can appreciate all the hard work put in.

Each to his own I guess. Let's see some Dino runs!

Why don't you like the theoretical top speed? LOL

It is just a calculation to see where the gearing will allow the car to go. I do however believe I should get close to 330 km/h ... and if I can find an event with a long enough straight I will try it. Also hoping for about 280 km/h on the 1 km sprint.

Will post dyno figures once I get there but will start with lower boost first to run it in and bump it up over week or two to about 2 bar.

BTW, the GT35 isn't a very big turbo for the flow of this engine and shouldn't have much lag, also it being a Garret ball bearing turbo. I do have a longer term plan, when I need a turbo for my Supadrift car under construction to take the BMW's GT35 and replace it with a GTX40. That can maybe be a bit laggy but will make very serious horses at the limit of the engine's standard internals.
