Thinking of a change

Hey guys,

There's a slight inking in my mind.. just a thought, and nothing I'll act on soon.. but I'm thinking of changing my ride.
I love my car to pieces, but the sad truth is its just not made for these SA/East London roads. That and my home renovations, etc etc has lead me wishing many times that I had a bigger car.

I'm thinking of moving to an SUV.. BMW preferred
The look of the new X3 has hooked me (not that I can afford it) but its further pushing my drive for an SUV.

Whats the best option I'm looking at within a budget of, say, R300k? Something in the vein of an X3.. POSSIBLY an X5 (although thats maybe too big), and not a "I want to speak to your manager" ladies car.

Should I look away from BMW in that price range? I dont really want to go for anything older than 2013, and a mileage of more than 120k (the less the better, obviously)

Lately, ive been looking at Toyota LandCruisers.
great value for money, plenty space and hold value much much better than a BMW.

Yeah very true. My dad has one and that thing is a trooper. Maintenance costs are heavy though. Also, mostly out of my budget.

Have yo uconsidered the 2004 X5 30d in the For Sale section with 85000km on the clock, FSh and well specced for R149k neg i think?

For under R300k, X3s well specced will be a bit difficult to come by, even worse the X5 but I am sure (as always) some patience and shopping around can always lead too a good deal...raise:

but i will seriously consider the 2004 X5 30d if i had spare parking.

We have the X3 (F25), and I absolutely love it. There were plenty, when we were looking, in your kind of price range, so it's definitely worth a look. Give them a test drive and you will be hooked, I am sure.

I also love the X5 (E70), which we had before the X3, and perhaps from a mean look perspective, size and stance, I preferred it, but from a practicality perspective the X3 is big and capable enough too - and certainly has been cheaper to run and maintain.

If you go X3, petrol will be fine, but if you go X5, probably best to consider a diesel. Fuel consumption on the X5 petrol was killer!

Either way - go enjoy some test drives, find something that suits your budget, and enjoy!

I'm, struggling to find an X3 for that price range with half-decent mileage still. Well, there are some... maybe I'm being stupid and looking for an M-Sport of it :withStu:

Opinions on second hand X3 vs a new SUV like... Mazda CX5 or Toyota Rav4, etc?

As for CX-5, et al, I can't really comment... they seem nice, but never really driven or owned any to be able to make a meaningful comment!

If you considering a Rav-4 - it may as well be pink? Isn't that a chick car? Hehe

And if a Rav-4 is an option.... maybe a Jimney? I've always loved the look of a Jimney...! (A manly one - fully specced)...

As of right now, I like my ride way too much. I took a couple of long distance trips in her last week. Such a beautiful machine, had a great time. Maybe one day, but that day is not today.

For those that are interested though, before I made this call, I was looking at a slightly older model Toyota Fortuner.
