ive been having a idle problem for awhile now my car idles slightly lower than it should and once it drops to say 500 rpm if i pull off without giving petrol it makes this growl sound and i do have a tear in my lower intake boot which could be part of my idle problem BUT i recently realised that when i put my headlights/fogs on the revs drop slightly almost like the alternator cant handle the load watcha guys think?

test with a mulitmeter - you will be able to see a voltage drop on the battery.
can be a loose or faulty cable
alternators either charge normally or don't at all
try patching up the tear and see if there a difference
normally the engine automatically adjusts when theres a load

My money is on that tear, is it before or after the MAF?

Also what naughty said, if it was the alternator you would know about it ;) Also check your battery, has it ever been changed?

unmetered air going in, and also that battery doesnt sound healthy :)

There was a guy in Australia that had his car on the dyno and it wasnt performing properly, they replaced the battery and he picked up 18kw immediately

wow lol i tend to underestimate how many issues a bad battery can cause when my bat died a few weeks back i switched on ignition and my dials started buzzing and i thought id messed something up when i did the kokie mod :( then realised bat was dead charged it and the buzzing went away lolers
