Think he means to say if you have a faulty thermostat power will be down. I "assume" the pic is depicting a change of thermostat

I booked my car for service yesterday, I complained about the radiator fan was turning fast at most of time, BMW pluged into the computer to see if there is any fault. After 2 minutes computer pick up the fault that thermostat is faulty. Then the technician asked me how I feel the power of the car, I said sometimes is good but sometimes is not, then the technician said thermostat sending the signal to computer to say the engine is too hot. Then Computer automatically reduce injecting the fuel. After changing the thermostat, power is back.

faulty thermostats should allow to run the engine cooler as in they remain open consistently. My understanding of thermostats failing in the closed position was done away in the 80s maybe early nineties ( except the citi golf lol)

Thermostat probably stuck in the open position. You can monitor the coolant temperature via the hidden menu on the cluster, so if you still had the old thermostat in, it would have been interesting to see what it did.
