The REAL BMW M4 Exhaust sound

0:20 Goosebumps when the car pops into 2nd gear

Does sound VERY x35 with performance exhaust though, and not really M-like:thumbdo:

O well, it's part of the evolution of the M-brand I suppose:thumbs:

I didn't even realize this the first time! You have a sharp eye!

Makes sense cos the car has "M Performance Parts" written all over it!Definitely not a standard M4 then!

This has me confused:bangdesk:

Yup. This has m perf goodies, exhaust, black kidneys, front splitter etc... Google motogp m4 safety car.

Its a bit ironic that you buy the pinnacle vehicle of the 4series (3series) and you still need to buy a' performance exhaust to make it sound good.

Should come standard like that imo

Completely agree. I guess people will always want to set their car apart from the rest, no matter what the brand/model, so there will always be a market for that. BMW has caught onto that with the whole "M performance" range of goods such as the PPK Power kits, exhausts, and just about every cosmetic part you can think of.

If it came standard with the M performance exhaust, and they offered another performance exhaust, people would most likely say it should have come with the other performance exhaust as standard.

Having said that, the new stock M3/M4 doesn't sound great from the vids. This one with the MPE sounds better from the vids, still not what I'd expect from an M3/M4 but hey, it is what it is and I'm sure it's a beast of a car in all other aspects despite the stock sound!

I agree also that you agree with e46mokey...

But regarding the exhaust sounds I guess this is the future and we simply have to get used to it...just listen to the modern F1 cars...Whats supposed to be the greatest sounding engines on earth!and honestly I think my 6cyl 135 sounds better!!

the future has arrived and it sounds......quiet (says this in a whisper voice:biglol:)

True that, but in this instance I'm sure they could have made it sound better from the beginning if they wanted, most likely while still retaining the current emission ratings. It's probably just a ploy to sell more M performance parts.

BMW has changed their strategy quite drastically over the past few years, what with the GT's, gran coupes, making an "M" and "X" out of almost every model (m135/235/550d etc), and I think this move might be part of that strategy. The majority guys who are spending R1.2 mil on an m3/4 will be most willing to spend 30k or so on an exhaust to make it sound better.

Anyways, just sharing some thoughts :)

What is this bullshit of an ///M car having to add ///M performance goodies to it?

An ///M car should come out with all that stuff standard... I mean, how do you compare two cars then? Take this scenario for instance. Two M3 drivers park next to one another, one is factory stock, one has ///M Performance added. Does this mean the 2nd car is more of an ///M car? I can just hear the arguments -- "My M3 has more ///M Perf stuff on it compared to your M3... thus mine is a real M3."

This just dilutes the brand and is bull.

Big thumbs down for BMW's decision. Before you know it, the LSD isn't going to be standard on an ///M car.

An ///M car needs to be the best there is, the pinnacle of BMW tech. There should not be any option for performance upgrades.

I'm with Crash. This having to spend extra $$ to make your ///M sound decent is pretty disappointing.

Agreed! And this is for a MILLION RAND+ machine!!

Let's wait for the launch and then complain!i thinks it's unfair to judge the car without first-hand experience...although I will say this: The Performance mods are suppose to add and enhance the original cars.So if the m4 sounds like this WITH the performance exhaust, I assume that it will most likely sound more subdued with standard exhaust.and that is disappointing!!!in stock form it should AT LEAST sound as aggressive as in this video
