The quality of people at events...

This situation is more of a "if the cap fits...". From what I have noticed, the members attending from the forum are always well behaved, it's the general public that comes along thats misbehaved.

Has it become a norm for people to rev the crap out of their cars at car meets now days?

I was a at a meet last night and it was going so well until 2 or 3 cars drove in sitting in the limiter or constantly revving their car. I mean, petrol is not cheap, I struggle to pay for repairs on my car and I can't see how revving is mechanically safe.

The way these guys were revving. Is it attention seeking? "Hey look at my car, it's going to break just now"

Quality of peoples mentality is really deteriorating locally. It's going to affect quality of social meets here as well.

Rant over...

Didn't happen to be an e92 m3 did it? I've noticed this behaviour before from a BMW driver at another non BMW specific event. Embarrassing to say the least.

All revving like there's no tomorrow. Not specifically a brand thing. It's a brain thing...

The first time I heard someone doing this I assumed they were on drugs. Who would do that to their car? There's normal revving here and there and then there's constant redlining, sitting on the limiter for minutes..

There was a lot of that in the underground parking at the VW My Car Got Shot event several weeks back.:thumbdo:

Unfortunately this caused more than couple of groups of guys to call it a night when it became too annoying. One surefire way of attracting the wrong attention from the law as well. Also quite a few kids running around and unfortunately some guys (seemingly not related to the event at all) decided they needed to drive really fast through there as well.

Its all fun and games until someone drops a valve or runs a bearing and then the manufacturer makes unreliable expensive-to-repair cars...

That said, last night was actually very good overall IMHO. Nice to meet up with the guys in person. We used to attend many 'discreet' milkshake runs in the past (3-4 years ago) where guys would meet up, inevitably have a couple of runs but it was mostly about the atmosphere and network. This felt similar to that for a while.

There was an E30 too.

But you know what. The event overall was a great success. I had a great time and got to catch up with some old friends and see some new faces too! There were some incredible cars to perv over and the hot chocolate was great too!

Yeah it sucks that theres a few that choose to do stupid things. But lets not let it detract from what was a good event overall!

it drove me mad.....

Its just so damn childish..., i cant imagine what goes through the owners mind at that time.... cant image that it would be great for the engine anyway...., high temps, little cooling. Some were smoking too and over fuelling so i assume they were looking for flames out the exhaust.

Next time i am carrying bananas to put in the exhaust....:biglol::biglol:

when i hear those cars hitting the limiter for that long... the drivers actually start looking around to see which of us are looking at them... yes it for attention... but i always presume something like this would happen ...???

at around 24 seconds in ? or am i wrong ?

This is sadly all too common at car events no matter where you go. There is an element that is attracted to these sorts of events that simply wants to show off and/or make it about themselves.

I feel for the competitors because things tend to go wrong for them that would make them hesitant to attend the next time (speaking from experience) and I feel for the organizers as they have to walk a fine line between not discouraging attendance from spectators by being too strict and having to be everywhere at once to make things run smoothly.

My local track struggles with this constantly and it does seem that the severity varies according to what type of event is being held.

Yep saw that one too... Felt so sorry for that old girl, chromie 2 door as well, spinning vehicle. Big hideous chrome 18's on front and the stock 14's on the back.. I can't stand that shit, actually left earlier than what we wanted put a bit of a brown stain on an otherwise cool evening.. sans the rev morons..

Last night was the first BMWfanatics event that I attended with the family and also found the noise-makers annoying.

Would signing an official attendance-register at our events help differentiate the attention-seekers from the members ?
This could also be used to record continuous support from regular members.

(and it was great putting faces to names last night - looking forward to the next gathering)

Ja it's really stupid!! And at some events the burnouts, launches and doughnuts or spinning, is also really bad

Flip at the SA Beemer event at the Glen we took the G&H race car which had to be loaded onto a flatbed, we had to wait to load the car because of all the chops doing doughnuts as they left , it was so unsafe as the truck was right next to entrance!!

Yeah it was the reason i left. The gf wasnt too comfortable with some of the oaks acting like hooligans, whoever they were, member or not. And the dudes drifting out of the garage... was a bit much. But i will say that the Toyota 86 one was cool.... lol.

Was lekker to meet some new faces though. Good turnout.
