The Purpose Of All That Power?

I have a question that's been bugging me. And considering there are a lot of ridiculously fast cars on here I figured this is the best place to ask.

It saddens me to say this, but what's the point of having all that power?

I'd love to get an M car, especially a 335i :praise: but in all honesty, when do you get to use all that power? Even with my little 118i I get frustrated cos I just want to stretch her legs, but spend most of my time in traffic or behind a granny who thinks 40km/h is like hauling ass down the autobahn. It's so frustrating.

I did see an interesting answer to this question from Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear. He said it's not about using that power to race about all the time, it's about knowing that it's there, and you have it, should you need it.

What's your guys' take on this? And of course, all that power is justified if you're taking your car on track days - that goes without saying.

At night when I get into bed and I think of my cars it puts a grin on my face.

Allot of people will ask why and allot of people will say why not? Some might think the Nissan GT-R is fast, but then there will be some one tuning it to 1100hp. Why? Because reasons.

For me it's not about using it or not using it. If you love cars you know there will be a moment where it will all make sense... a day where you will be taking a drive somewhere and you'll find yourself on a open road with no traffic. That is where it all comes together and you sit with a smile on your face.

It's not about what it can do or why it should do it. It's about how it makes you feel when it does.

Hi i think i have your answer
I had a 1994 3.0 v6 ford courier which i felt needed more power so i source a crate motor from state side chevy 383 stroker cost 80k but still i wanted more so i sourced a weiland supercharger another 20k msd kit a jaguar xj6 diff front suspension 40k ended with 360kw and 620nm of torque still in the end was still not enough, when you start on your per suit of power it become a addiction!

Holy crap, what an absolute beast!

So basically power is like crack - one hit and you're hooked. But in a good way.

You could why do I need a flat screen led smart tv over a 54 inch tube tv ? Its the same reason why you would buy a proper sports car. While the 54 inch tv will do the job you will always want a little more to put a smile on your face....
