To be honest, it makes one feel alive.. Now don't get me wrong here, not saying a car should be the be all and end all of what you are but somehow each person differs. Others drive whatever because they don't care about what car they drive, and that's fine I can respect that, to them it's a car. To me it's not, it's an extension of who you are (if you're a car person) raise:

To me personally I sold the 320d for the 335i mainly because it was an impulse decision to see what the fuss was about.. my o my.. I should have done it ages ago. Yeah I'm also stuck in traffic but now I have a six pot and some exhaust burbles to listen to, and when I break free... :rollsmile:

That said, it does not have enough power, needs moaaar a lot moaarr :roflol:

Before my e39 528i I had an e30 318i coupe and an e36 316i...

NOTHING on the smaller end of the scale compares to 6 cylinder noise and torque... Sure, my bro's Opel Kadett CD 200 is fast, but stressful to drive...

The BMW goes into drive, and I cruise at the speed limit all day...

Abolute power corrupts absolutely ..... there is no sense of occasion with "sensible" cars ... to the OP ... u need to arrange to drive a high performance car and it will become abundantly clear. You will feel confident and content listening to the burble from the exhaust. The thicker steering wheel feels that much more substantial, the brakes so much more reassuring. The other benefit is that most high end cars are loaded with all the options, like premium sound, heated seats, active cruise, lane departure and xenon lights.

Me personally, you will need to own a high end car once in your life, to feel what it feels behind the wheel...

Now, with me having a kid and starting a family, it doesn't make sense to have such a high horsepower car... end of the day, 60km/h is 60km/h, so is 100km/h.... so you can get to that speed 5 seconds faster than me... good for you...

Guess it also depends when and how you drive, if is traffic.... fuggetabouit... if you track or race, why not:coolShake:

I spend 99% of my daily commute in traffic. Even on weekends, it just seems like there's a lot less open road than there used to be (and I don't even live in Fourways). It's when out driving that you notice the population increase.

I took my car on a drive out to Harties a few weeks back and even that rout was pretty backed up. Maybe it's just me, but I'd be worried that driving a really fast car would just frustrate me.

Harties is always bad, especially by the tunnel where it becomes stop and go alternating.

Drive your car to Kruger or Sun city and you can "stretch its legs" properly.
Couple years back I drove to Lesotho border from GP for a friends wedding and back on the same day in my 320d.
Nothing special, it was just a 320d stock and it was the most amazing drive I have ever had, overtaking trucks, climbing hills, and the bends at 160km/h was something else.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd be worried that driving a really fast car would just frustrate me.

IT is VERY frustrating in city traffic. I find myself more often than not shouting "GO GO GO" at other motorists who are slow to move off the line or up hills.

But on the open road, even if there is traffic, a faster car should make your drive less frustrating as you can pass them more easily and with greater confidence.

You can only understand why when you actually feel it and understand.

I have no issues overtaking. Fast cars are generally more reliable sticking to the tar as well. Less hassle to get up to cruising speed ect. There are a million practical reasons. But mine is just to kill most cars on the road

It used to be a chore having too much power. Powerful cars were difficult to drive. Heavy clutches. Heavy steering. No boot space. Powerful cars would kill you. In modern times there is no down side to having too much power.

So the question should be why not have all that power?

P.S. Breezing past trucks, embarrassing a "VW Polo with zorst" while towing a caravan, overtaking a VW Gti while he is trying to out accelerate you.

Agreed your daily drive should not be a donkey.
But having 500 KW for your trip to work is a little too much?

so the balance in my opinion is a safe powerful daily and something exciting for the weekends or planned trips?

anything around 150kw is enough but I dont see anything wrong with having 1000kw if it can put the power to the ground

If i could afford it i would quite happily daily something with 500kw anything more and putting the power down becomes a real challenge

Lets take the E36 M3 as a base. 0-100 in 6 Sounds good to me.

I dont really much care for top speed, but the journey from 0 - 100 which is still legal is what its all about.

Good question. I'd say anything around 150kw, and around 270 - 300nm should suffice for just enough power to make daily commute enjoyable, and enough power to still have that experience of exhilaration when you do get to open it up.

I find the power and torque in my car is about right for my driving style, where the power I do have is used to overtake grannies. But yes, there's ALWAYS room for more. And I guess like most things that are exhilarating, you always want more. Eventually the only thing that still excites you is a 500kw beast.
