Also, on a 118i, you are always stretching its legs. its 118i.

:blueCry:

My wife had a 118i for some time, the E87.
We got rid of it, because of space when the little one came.
I drove it once or twice a week on the weekends, and always got the feeling like it got to a point where it would give no more.

Like a horse thats holding back real power. Unfortunately, they detune the 118i engines from the factory, while she had the N43B20 105kw variant, it always felt like you got to that foot down, "giving her all shes got captain" very quickly.
Although now, they are pushing 125kw IIRC (stand to be corrected), which is a lot more respectable.

anyway, who gives a shit what I think.
If you love your car, and it goes the way you want it to go, thats all that matters in the end.
Right?

Okay the reasons so far :YesNo:
1. For safety purposes
2. Overtaking trucks.....
3. its like insurance..., you need to have it .., in case you need it...
4. To get out of and away from situations quickly
5. After a long day at the office - the drive home with soo much power under your foot is the best feeling
6. 335i engine sounds better than the other 4 cylider engines
7. if I ever need it, its there, in my pants and I know its there
8. The more the better. It's Fun!
9. It's all about the feeling.
Hope i have quoted everyone correctly thus far :biglol:

This is like asking why I have a huge huge shlong.
Saying its unnecessary, if it wont get used.

Just have a small one.

But let me say, that if I ever need it, its there, in my pants and I know its there, I trust in its abilities do do what it needs to do when it needs to do it.

You follow my point?

Also, on a 118i, you are always stretching its legs. its 118i.

Buy an M3, drive it to work and back for a week, and you will see what the point of all that power is.

"but with great power, comes great responsibility" and the maturity not to try to "tear it" every chance you get.

:roflol:

You know what they say about people who drive BMW's and brag about having huge shlongs?

The word shlort is usually more appropriate :sorry:

The huge shlong analogy was to make an illustrative concise point to the grasshopper.

:=):

Shlong....................shlort............. as long as it does the job when you need it to.

Right?

Ya, it's 125kw from the F20. But I know what you mean. It's never enough really, is it? And that's a sentiment echoed by friends who drive things like S3s.

Its the reason why you have people with deep pockets buying ///M cars, and fitting downpipes, decats, free flow exhausts, meth kits, big brake upgrades.

Too much power, is jes raaaaaiiit!

I Sleep better at night just knowing I have all this powers

On a serious note though, I think having a daily to use weekdays in and out of traffic and a car to look forward to driving on longer trips on weekends makes it worthwhile.
I use a 1.6 Diesel on a weekday, and the 3.0T gets used Weekends...

I am on the highway, and no matter what the occupancy / cargo, I know that on the uphills I will not lose speed.

It just brings a smile to my face watching the little eco boxes fly past me on the downhill, rev-limiters screaming, and then watch them again as I sail by on any upward slope.

This!
No words for this feeling.

You can only understand why when you actually feel it and understand.

I have no issues overtaking. Fast cars are generally more reliable sticking to the tar as well. Less hassle to get up to cruising speed ect. There are a million practical reasons. But mine is just to kill most cars on the road

I did see an interesting answer to this question from Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear. He said it's not about using that power to race about all the time, it's about knowing that it's there, and you have it, should you need it.

There's your reason right there :withStu:

I agree. I see no point in an ecobox wannabe.

3.0 diesel with software and decat, makes an awesome noise, plenty power when you need it, and lighter on fuel than most ecobox things anyway (if you drive the ecobox expecting power, that is...).

I never ever use the full power of my car. I never race it. I don't do robot to robot. But all the points above are exactly why we want the power. Especially if it doesn't cost that much more to have it (diesel owners will agree).

I do a lot of long distance travelling with my car. I would rather have the power I need by using half the engine capacity and not needing to rev past 2500rpm, than have an ecobox revving at 6000rpm just to get up a hill.

" than have an ecobox revving at 6000rpm just to get up a hill."

Which is all the time, every time, you can actually hear it on hills if you open you window, feels like it will just breakdown like how breakdowns happen in cartoons.....
where the car stalls, engine goes poof in a plume of black smoke and the bumper and all the doors fall off.

While I tend to agree that these days you seldom get to use the power to its full ability. I don't track race my car, it is nice to know that the power is on tap when commanded though.

My take on it... You don't need more than 150kW for a daily..... Anything more, you basically wasting your money, as you won't use ALL that power more than 5 percent of the time!

These figures are ball park, don't cut my throat about them, but you get the idea.

Save the big power beasts for the weekend, use for special occasions, for the sake of driving, performance events etc :)

Choose your daily based on the type of power you enjoy, e.g. Turbo, NA, auto etc.....
