With the looks of the new 1er being as they are the 1.6 turbo will have to make in excess of a 1000HP just so you are fast enough for people not being able to see you behind the wheel... :mmm:

But in all seriousness I doubt how much fun it will be................won't the new 1er be FWD? If that is the case you will be pretty limited in the amount of power you can put down.

I am guessing it will probably not be long before we see FWD BMW's becoming the norm.

I don't think that would be possible......can you quad turbo a 2-cylinder 2-stroke engine ...................:)

That pretty much how it is with most small turbo engines :)

I owned a E90 200kw 330 and thought it was the shit, till I went TURBO. Trust me when I say technology is amazing, and u dont need large lazy engines to produce insane power that is delivered throughout the rev range. So I wouldnt be to negative, embrace the change guys:rollsmile:, a new 800 cc quad turbo would probably run train lengths from most current cars LOL

That is true, but it will most probably be FWD which will mean that is will be useless, torque steer and under steer and all that :nonono:

if they can make a 4cyl sound like a straight 6 or V8 then sure, knock yourself out, but no... id take a V8 producing 120kw over a polo gti any day. but thats just me...

BMW had huge success with the 2002 turbo...inline 4. So who knows...may just turn out to be the next best hot hatch...not so sure about the FWD thing - yes it makes business sense but I know world wide, the fanatics wont be happy with a wrong wheel drive car.

there's already a prototype of this said FWD 4 pot.

check it out

Whether the fanatics like it or not won't really matter since the are only a very small percentage of the total BMW driving public, the rest are pretty much just there for the snob trip that comes with the roundel.

A while back there was a survey, can't remember the exact number the, but the majority of people in the survey thought that their one series was FWD, I have even experienced people in the motor industry that though the e46 is FWD (because most cars are FWD)
So BMW will end up losing the support of some fanatics, but the money they will save by rather going FWD will more than make up for it.
