Avi135 said:Does anybody have insight on the MDM mode on the pre-facelift cars? It seems that the car doesn’t really slip much even with MDM on. Not sure if it’s the tyres are gripping too well or I am not being aggressive enough on the throttle. Not brave enough to fully switch off traction control.

The car is definitely tail happy given enough motivation, so you definitely need to just apply more throttle or flick and counter and the car will definitely come out.
Bought one from a forum member, and it had stage 2 work on it, car is a menace with full traction on.

Thanks bud!
Did you end up getting the Z4M sold?
Post up a thread for your E92 bud, I want to see some pics!:smilebounce:
///Avi said:I’ve gotten the Android unit installed, been in the car for over a week now and I must say it works well enough. Everything still looks OEM in the car as you can still use the idrive controller to move through menus as well as the touch screen etc.

I especially wanted android auto to work with the unit and I’m glad to say it works as advertised. You can control your phone from the android touch screen and it makes it a little easier to handle your music and follow your navigation (I use waze at the moment, what a pleasure to use).
The only thing that is a challenge at the moment is that you have to connect your phone to the screen via USB so the cables hang from the side. Mirroring for android auto drains the battery quite a bit (the phone screen remains on for this). This is fine if the USB delivered good charging amps, but it does not. My phone ended up dying while it was being mirrored on the android unit. Small inconvenience but I can live with it for now, will see what options are available.
Also, I’ve noticed that the bass is a little flatter when played through the android unit, I must mess with a few more settings to see if I can improve this. I have the HiFi sound in the car which isn’t the best but it was better than my 135 which had the professional sound. Had a feeling it would be the case so I’ve just accepted that fact.
I'm a happy camper now though as the CCC was never used and now the car has a bit of functionality. I may install the torque pro app and connect a bluetooth OBD dongle at some point but now I don't really need it.

///Avi said:Small updates:
I’ve owned this car for 6 months now and I must say it has been an absolute pleasure so far.
The last service on the car was 6k km back (October 2018) and I have done 4000 km since I’ve taken ownership in April. That’s an interesting number because my daily has done about 2500km in the same time. I’ve been taking regular drives with this car with no destination in particular during the work week in the evenings. Just enjoying the sound of the engine and the corners (On an occasional route down Melkbos this car absolutely screams). It brings me so much joy right now.
My goal was to become a better driver and learn the limits of my car and how to better control it, past its limit. I decided that the M had to see the track for me to explore some of these limits safely. When the BMW car club cape town announced their annual track day I immediately signed up. I am by no means a fast driver but I am learning something about this car most times that I take a drive, which makes me happy.
Here is one of my laps that I managed to capture with a passenger in the car (The Gopro died on my last session when I was alone in the car, I was told, in that session, the fastest run was a 1:36). It isn’t the fastest time for the car but at the very least I have set down a marker for myself and would be able to see progress over the next track days. To put that in perspective, Deon Joubert has done a 1:25:50 with an E92 at Killarney, so I am quite a way off the cars capability, and I don’t see myself getting to that type of pace. The car handled well and I kept it in MDM to be safe. I didn’t attack braking points for this first track day and I cooled down the car sufficiently halfway through each session (4 sessions) and for a full lap before going into the pits.

Maintenance:
- Idler pulley (deflection pulley)
- Belts
- OFHG
- Wheel speed sensor – error popped up on dash on a random drive.
- Oil and filter change (after track day)
- Brake fluid flush before and after track day
Mods:
- High kick carbon fiber spoiler (Turner motorsport) – This one is not to everyone’s taste.
- Front and rear spacers (15mm and 12.5mm respectively)
- H&R sport springs
- F10 M5 gear knob and boot
- Yellow halo bulbs with cancellers
- White led reverse lights.
