But I owned a Dutsan Pulsar 1400 brand new in 1982. Was about R35 000. Used up all my student bursary money for it. Infact, co-owned it with my dad, not having had a drivers licence yet at the time. I drove the car until 1998, and on the highveld in Pretoria it really struggled. Brought it back to Cape Town and gave it to a good friend of mine...who may still be driving it...eish.
Anyway, I had some other machinery as well during the time, but the Pulsar was the lightest on fuel and I could fix it myself if something went wrong...
The students at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) knew it as the "hoer huis op wiele"...It had pitch dark tinted windows and was known to bounce regularly next to the rugby field during and after a game...but I swear I was not the culprit...:=):

I know... 5 out of 12 written off... none of those accidents were my fault, and in only 2 was I the driver...
Ok, so the Pulsar, lady turned infront of me from the far left lane into a parking on the right hand side, all over 3 lanes, without indicating... so I smashed into her bakkie... pulsar written off.
Corolla 1600gl, coming from the drive-in, and a young lady that just got her licence decides to skip a red light, and t-bone's me on my side... 6 months later I was again able to use my right arm... 1600gl written off.
Honda 150 Luxline, had the car just 5 days, and a drunk bliksem decides to overtake on a solid line, I just barely swerved to avoid a head-on crash, but he took off the entire right side of my car, including the rear wheel and shock assembly... honda written off.
Mazda etude, a friend borrowed the car, and called us later to tell us that a Canadian diplomat did not see him stop for a robot that was out of order, and drove into the back of the mazda, so bad the entire chassis flexed, and the roof was bent, so...written off.
bmw 320d, a work colleuge bought the car, and borrowed it to his twin brother, who was smashed when a Merc overtook a truck, making an oncoming truck swerve, and hit the bmw head-on, and behind them was another truck, so they got sandwiched between the 2 trucks, plus the merc hit them, so 7 people died, and 2 survived... bmw 320 written off.
