The age old question...

To sell, or not to sell.... :dunno: that is the question???!!!

OK, so I know that this topic has been discussed a million times but every person has a different type of problem, so here is my dilemma...

My baby's motorplan expires on 27 October 2010, and because she is 7 years old, I can no longer renew it. Her motor has only done 86,000km, but my main concern is that if i keep her out of motorplan, and something was to break... well... I'm :smileysex:

I dont have the $$$ on hand to fix any major problems should they occur, but have found out that Hollard insurance can give me an independant motorplan for R510 p/m should I decide to keep her.

BMW Leo Haese Hatfield, is willing to kick me in the nuts :cursin: and offer me R90k on a trade in, but my settlement is still R117k, so I am once again being :smileysex:

I can try to sell her "voetstoots" and get a bit more I hope, but I still have mixed feelings about the whole situation... :drama:

Anybody, please, anybody, give your opinion. :worshippy:

Thanks all
:pimp:

Hi Coisman,
If you could renew your motorplan, would you?
If you would, how much would it cost and would you have to pay lump sum or monthly?

If you would renew the motorplan then take the money you would have spent for the motorplan and deposit it into a 30 day call account for future emergencies.

Your car only has 86,000 k's on the clock so you should not have any major problems soon. It is obvious that you love your car and treat it well, so why give it all up now.

Hang in there and soos oom Paul gese het "Alles sal regkom"

Regards
Skwinty

I have in the past renewed it twice, cause the km was so low, it cost me R2480 in 2008, and R2560 in 2009,
but now because bmw only allows extensions of maximum of 2 years, I cant... :banghead:
So am leaning towards the hollard option, or maybe youre idea is a good one, banking every month... eish

Well you know what to do, if (payments of current car)+(hollard motorplan) < (payments on new car) then it would be best to keep the current car, otherwise go for the new one. Unless you decide that you couldn't get it over your heart to let your baby go.

You know how I feel about this, I would hate to see you let go of the 325i (unless its to a fanatic of course :) ) as it is a truely awesome car you have, it is so well looked after and the mileage is really low, but I also understand the financial implications of keeping it.

Coisman, manual or auto.

Book your car in at a friendly BMW agent, have them replace control arms, water pump and keep her. If you love her that much, dont let a silly thing such as a motorplan stand in your way.

BMW motors can and will run way past 500,000 provided that they are well lubricated and they do not overheat.

E46's are so common that there are plenty spares in scrapyards, also there is a massive spares availability on Ebay and so on.

The only thing that is a bit of a PITA is the auto gearbox's, but that can also be solved by a. an early oil change before it breaks, or a manual conversion which should cost you about 7k if you shop properly.

If your in doubt about the health of the motor, have a compression test done and codes read (I can help you with the last one)

But also, what are you going to replace her with, and how much is that going to cost you... I say keep it....

 Hi there zaleonardz
ok, she is a manual,
if you are talking about the control arms as in the ones at the front suspention, all done 18 months ago on motorplan,
also altinator - 7 months back, waterpump - 4 months back, shocks - last week...
anything else??

O yea,
the compression test, will the dealership do it??

They really are not that expensive to keep going, if that is the deciding factor. I have a old 328, up to now it's cost me brakes and a clutch. An absolute pleasure I'll never sell it.

But if you going to sell move it now.

Then you have nothing to worry about on that car.

Have somebody like budler do a compression test, RGM is going to rape you, but they should do it too.

The dealership may do it, but will charge you for it I am sure, and at R700 an hour....

You have replaced all of the major wear components. and you have a manual gearbox, I would instead of paying hollard which will refuse every claim you put through to "driver abuse", do some further maintanance, replace oil in gearbox, diff ....

Yes your window regulator can break the day after the motor plan ends, and at the agents it will cost you zillions, but there are ways and means to mainain these cars without dealer buttsex...

I really really say keep her :)

:dunno: No idea
haven't done my homework yet
:thinker: why, you interested??
:)

I know someone that might be interested in a BMW, he is normally a 5er fan but a BMW is BMW and I could tell him about yours maybe he would be interested, and price would also be a play a big role, that I why I wanted to know.

Sankekur, you got my cell number, phone me with an appointment and bring him over to see the car for himself.
Then in the mean time I will try to find out a price, but dont worry, I wont be greedy.
I will see if i can get to it tommorow, just have to take my father into hospital for 3rd round of chemo...

As has been said, the maintanance is relatively low considering alot of parts have been replaced anyway. The only reason I would see you selling her, is because you want something different. If she still turns you on everyday, there's absolutely no reason to sell!
