the 1M hype?

i know im going to get alot of flack, but this is a forum to share your thoughts.

i just dont get all the hype around the 1M, i understand and respect the engineering, the design and the body.

but it just doesnt have that "WOW" factor for me like most BMW's.
there are alot of people making a seriously big deal about this little rocket?

i would much prefer a neat 135?

am i barking up the wrong tree here, am i missing something?

There is no hype about the 1 series M coupe, its a M bud!
Jeremy Clarkson also says its the best car tested since the MK1 golf so that was 1867 i think.:bravo:
I rate my M3 the best car ever driven value for money wise as i do alot of track and half of the M3 is on this lil rocket with some new goodies.
And i will have 1 of 64 in SA, well make that 63 now which is nice cos it just irritates me when there are 1000 of 1 car that you see everyday!
Faster track times than the M3 tested on top gear on a damp track which i will test with all my logged times at all the tracks in the country so lets see if this is all just hype or not?

when i heard there would be a 1M, i was excited to see it, but was let down when i finally did see it?
like i said- i respect the dynamics and the pace and the power, but just doesnt do anything for me.

i know its just my opinion, dont expect anyone to agree.
if i wanted exclusivity, i'd buy a E46 M3 csl.

(personally- i think they keeping the ///M1 badge back for a reason, other than just history)

Well i am very dissapointed by the new M5's looks and the fact that it is turbo.
I think this 1 M looks really nice.
It would have been a perfect ///Motorsport BMW if it had the S65b40 V8 or the s54b32, but i wont get started on that topic again

u cannot compare the 135i to the // M car.

It is a far better sorted Driving machine. We have gone through this before, an // M Car is not just about straight line performance, its about a complete performance package which the 1 // M executes perfectly.

Also the hype is that for the first time in years we have a game changing car, a cheap(relatively) true performance car, coming from a premium manufacturer, as the E30 // M3 changed the game, so to is the expectation from the 1//M.. BMW are creating a new segment of performance and the hype was whether they were creating a car just to sell because it had a // M badge or whether it was true // M car, the thrill of a small // M car returning.

So now i will just have to wait as i want mine registered in 2012 i get it end of the year which gives me time at Turner motorsport to get some goodies.lol

These are exactly my thoughts. That's why they called it a 1 series M Coupe & not an M1. Still to come or maybe a M2. Same body, flared arches, all M3 chassis, Z435is engine, exclusivity??? The wheels are exclusive!!! They only plus compared to a CSL is that u still get motorplan otherwise I'd go for a CSL.

Are you getting a 1M? Didn't u mention previously that the 135i's suffer from heat soak on the track & that u can drive an M all day but not more than 7 laps on 1 series. Anything done to the cooling?

A brand new //M car for R540k!!! it doesnt get better than that! agreed you cannot compare the 135i to 1M, its the detail that makes a huge diff.
When i first saw the 1M in the flesh i was taken away, it stood next to an M3 and it really stood out, ao yeah! there is lotsa hype abt it and the hype is true!!

i wouldnt compare the 135 to the 1M.... that i get, its 2 different worlds.
unless you going to hit the track or hit many roads and really drive it, then u better off with something else.

Spec, ordered and Allocated bud.The heat soak on a 135i is not even 3 laps bud and the dct causes alot of the heat so the 1M will have less of this heat build up as it is manual and i dont really know lets see. I have various coolers i can use to throw at this heat issue although with the new front air curtain technology used on the 1M and the cooling different as to the 135 as in ducts and vents etc you will all know very soon.

Now BMW's M division has done all their magic on the 1 series that weighs a lot less than other M cars. It can't be anything BUT brilliant.

im not sure i would bother with a 1M if i were going to modify it anyway... you can get much the same results...

The HPF guys in the states are doing some crazy things with the 135's.
having said that, im sure when they get a 1M it will be crazy x10!!

That 1M just hits the spot for me, kinda like the actress Rona Mitra not classicly beautiful but she has somthing more, something we call the X factor!!

Or the //M factor in this case .
