That_Guy_Ettiene's Polo SL

So I have never really posted anything about my 2006 Polo 1.9TDi since I bought it in 2019.
Actually just bought the car as " replacement" for my E46 330i and to be solely a reliable daily.

I'm the 3rd owner from new, car was originally purchased from Klerksdorp VW, then sold to an older guy who used to drive from Potchefstroom to Klerksdorp.

Here it is then ( Mileage 168kkm)

As with all the cars I buy a good and thorough service is done.
Car was actually very well maintained, no accidents and most service's was done at VW.

All the filters was replaced,
Oil and Oil filter
Cambelt kit ( Bosch incl tensioner)
Waterpump,
Expansion tank,
all belts was done on this 170 000km service

Didn't take any photos, like I said, didn't think this car would be anything more than my Figo..

Next up was the suspension side of things. Car was still using the OEM original dampers, top mount etc.

Ordered new dampers,
control arms (with bushes),
tie-rods,
strut stabilizers,
and various bushes

After all this I drove the for about 8 to 10kkm like this and I must say, these cars are nippy for a small diesel that easily gets 1000kms on a 45L tank of diesel.

After doing a basic de-cat and going to Madness for a software tune the car really woke up. the the itch started!

After getting in touch with Adrian from TPH we set out a plan to get the car ready for a bit more power.

First up was sorting any small issues like small leak from the tandem pump, old perished vacuum lines and getting a solid mass flywheel ( and rear main seal) to deal with the added power she might have in future.
Did wheel bearings etc in this time as well.

Then It got expensive..

New intercooler ( 550x230x65),
TPH Race pipe ( deletes the Anti-Shudder Valve),
And sent the stock BV39B turbo to Gabby at Fastec to sort the turbo. We decide to hybrid it with a billet wheel.
The intake and all the boost pipes was the made black for a stealth, OE look.

Got the car back and was very impressed with the power and power delivery.

Next I decided that a new exhaust was due..
Got in touch with TPH again to build me something cool.

So you will see that the down pipe is tapered to fit the BV39B turbo. Future plans is to fit a bigger turbo and I didn't want to build a complete new downpipe.
the whole exhaust currently is a 76mm stainless steel setup.

Will continue to update this thread..

Looks proper! Any figures you would like to quote? Power? 1/4 mile times? cost?
On the last BMWFanatics dyno just before the first lockdown with just a de-cat it made a whopping 80wkw and 300nm:ROFLMAO:.
Not sure what it makes now, missed last weeks dyno but definitely more than 80kw.

Car was tune extremely conservatively, max boost spikes to 1.65bar then 1.5bar to just before redline, minimal smoke/soot.
Apparently some tuners/ guys run like 1.8 to 2.0 bar on these turbos and on the GTB22's north of 2.2bar...

I do not race the car or anything like that so no times etc.

On cost I'm at +-R72k in maintenance ( obviously excl normal service items like oil, filters..) and upgrades excl the car which I bought for R95k.

This is looking epic man! Nice and neat install of everything and no cheeping out on anything!
looking forward to the up-coming updates!
I don't think there will be any further updates or upgrades to the car.
Its extremely reliable and cheap to run atm and I'm looking to sell it, kinda bored with it now

Okay so i've decided to sell the car and look for something better.

I'm looking at R110k neg of course
If someone on here is interested in buying the car, please feel free to contact me on 060 nine hundred 8195
