Great review, thank you.

I would also rather take delivery of a new Lexus IS vs new BMW 3 series..

Now that's a proper review! Thanks for an honest and very useful review. Its all about the drive rather than the numbers/stats etc

Sho! Thats a bold statement, considering the environment...

Not really. Bimmer is trying to copy the merc formula for new cars. Lets hope the next version of the 3 is going to be better. Its already 80kgs lighter, so that might be pointing it in the right direction.

Liked the review:coolShake: Very tempting, considering that our (CPT) traffic police now have a few IS200t's :YesNo:

I was looking at 2nd hand prices, if the new one is 740k why is a 2 year old, one with 12k on the clock, 430k? That seems like some steep depreciation and the only reason I would be cautious.

Depreciation is a b!tch on these cars due to their poor brand perception in SA. New list was under R600k, even though it has gone up since then with the facelift. I wouldn't pay R700k+ for a new one - would only consider a used car, where it makes more sense.

One of the reasons why I got to test drive one for a few days is because there was so little interest in that particular car at a dealer - was standing for 3 months. Had a flat battery when they tried to start it. Charged the battery overnight and drove it hard for a few days and it did not miss a beat. Lexus reliability is no myth.

The good thing though is that quite a bit comes as standard from the nav to the heated and cooled seats, xenons, reverse camera, to name a few - so probably around R50k - R100k of extras on a 328i would make it comparably priced. However, again, the Lexus is now more about the way it drives above all else - that's a strange statement for me to make.

some interior/dash and engine pics?

Unfortunately not. However, when I do buy my own car, will post them up.

Performance wise it seems to compete agains the 328i/330i, which is somewhat disappointing for a 233kw vehicle that costs R740k.

:withStu: Agree with this on the basis that at R740k, for approx. R30k more you would be in 340i territory.. Granted you would still need to add on your m-pack but, pretty sure when you spending at that level, dealers are willing to 'sweeten' the deal.

Having driven the F30 pre-facelift, purely from the cars dynamic feel and drivers point of view, I have been left thoroughly impressed and would definitely want one at some point.. Not taking away from your driving experience of the Lexus, just my view. The Lexus will still however give you some individuality because you don't see as many of them.

Am I sensing a bit of "Old Timer" creeping in on some of you guys or what?
What was the reason for buying a Beemer in the first place? I must admit, I loath the ride on my 335i some days , but hey when I need a quick thrill , she still gets me there!!!
Reasonably speaking now , yes if you're looking at something more softly sprung and with less street brawler cred , then I agree with you on the Lexus.

I stopped reading where they say the 335i has two turbos...:hammerhead:

Bottom line the Lexus is a serious machine, it's quick, it's different, its well specced and priced. The fact that a 335i will beat it to next robot really doesn't matter (to me anyway). Everybody who drove this car loved it me included. And add that to the fact that I cant throw a rock into the air without hitting a f30 on its way down makes the lexus a genuine option.
