Good morning gents,

I have a question please help me?

I have a 2004 X5 3.0d and have read posts about removing the swirl flaps before they cause big problems.

My question is, once i remove them what plates need to be put back on the manifold to seal it again ?

Where can i get these cover plates?

Thanks a million guys

Dont waste your time and money with blanking plates. They really are a great solution to a problem that never existed in the first place!

Just remove the flaps from the spindles and put everything back together again without the flaps. It all seals up just fine again.

No, If you do that, there is nothing holding the spindles in place. Just get the proper blanking plates.

I cant see BMW designing something like that. If the flaps were the only thing holding the spindles in you would have a "rattling good fit" to say the least. There must be something else holding the spindles in place.

P1000, I have see you comment against this in a couple of threads. Is there a difference between the M47 and M57 motors that causes your viewpoint? I have done the flap-off-the-spindle on my M47, two years later and no problems.

OP: You are NOT CUTTING the spindle off, simply removing the blade.

Well, test it. I also thought that might be a solution until I held the swirl flap in my hand. Then I moved over to the machine shop and proceeded to make me a proper set of blanks.

Face lifted E53 with the 218Hp motor did not have swirl flaps. Not sure when the change over was but it was 2004-2005. You may not have swirl flaps.
