Surprise Roadworthy

So I didn't get my yearly license renewal invoice in the post and I went to query it at the post office. The lady says I need to have the car roadworthy checked.

?????? Hang on a minute.

The cars been in my name for over 6years and it went through a roadworthy test when I bought it.

Is this something new or do I clearly not know how it works... I thought roadworthys are done on change of ownership

Yes the 21 day grace period has expired. Still doesn't make sense to ask for a roadworthy

You should not have to go for a road worthy even if the 21 days have expired for license ernewal.

I've renewed my license after it passed the 21 days grace period.

The below is from licenserenewal.co.za

"You get a 21-day grace period in which to renew an expired motor vehicle licence. The grace period is calculated from the expiry date of the current licence disc, and a late renewal penalty applies after this time. the penalty fee is calculated at 1/10th of the annual licencing fee per month that the licence remains lapsed."

I spent some time at the post office last week, my list included:

-2 disks where 21 days were just about to expire
-1 disk expired 3 months
-2 disks expired 4 months

These cars are in storage so now all of them are due on the same month going forward (less running around)

No one said anything to me about needing a roadworthy certificate.

Try another post office, this should not be the case.

So I went to the Watloo traffic department to get this sorted.

They lady took my money, then turned round and said 'go to the Police traffic office as they need to speak to you and when you've got that sorted, get a roadworthy done'. :whip: :argh:

It sounds like this car has been marked as unroadworthy on eNatis.

Just take it for the test and save yourself all these hassles.

They need to tell you why the car was marked as un-roadworthy. Thats bullssht. I know that they sometimes ask for it when you change provinces.

It may not be roadworthy.

A few years ago I went to re-new my license and got the run around about roadworthy. After battling a bit was told to go for clearance, go to Benoni and they say they can't clear, must go see a detective in edenvale.

Turns out a car using my number plate was used in an armed robbery and was flagged on the system.

The detective in edenvale then cleared the mark and I was able to re-new the license.

Has the same issue a few months back , was referred to the Police Clearance Center , they asked me to do Micro-Dotting even before looking at my car , then it turned out my car has an S mark on it and then everything went downhill from there ....some idiot at licence office gave the same number plates to 2 cars my BMW and a Bantam bakkie in Kraaifontein. So the bakkie got stolen and got and S mark and some other idiot at licence department saw two cars with same plates and just decided well Red Bantam and White BMW is the same thing and marked both cars stolen ....

Got it sorted out in 3 weeks and R2700 later and I drove my own car like I stole it for a few months. Even went through a roadblock or two with a stolen marked car no issues .

Kinda think of it I never got any fines either , most likely went to the Bantam driver
