As in cut the roof to install one after the car was manufactured or to spec the car with a sunroof? :fencelook:

I have always had a Sunroof on all my BMWs.. A BMW without a sunroof feels wrong to me? My 2c

Give us an Intro please.

I think its worth it. There are some guys that do a good job, but make sure they're reputable. Dont want idiots poking holes in your car.

If it goes well and done professionally then yes worth it. If it is done wrong, and you have wind noise/leaks then you will not be so happy. Best to see if anyone on the forum has done it, I fail to recall a thread so not sure.

best advice would be lots of research!

Hey there.. Sorry I didn't get into detail Jeremy.

My e30 is a 318i and m treating it as a project, engine gearbox n other mechanical staff are done. I'm about to do a body now and I like my car to look like a 325i with a original sunroof, problem m scared to cut the whole car for a factory sunroof

According to BMW when I went for the Rossyln tour when a car is ordered with a run roof they use a different roof. One with 2 cross beams but they are strengthen so that if the car is in an accident the roof does not collapse as a sunroof sort of ruins the structural integrity of the car.

Normal roof has 3 of these beams going across so if you are going to get an after market sunroof it important to get it done by people who know what they are doing otherwise they might cut into these cross beams and ruin the entire roof.

Personally I wouldn't do it on a BMW... seems like a CITI golf, Polo Vivo type of thing.

I can guarantee you will end up with leaks after a few years.
The original BMW SR has specially made drainage ways for water that runs down to the wheelwell.
I doubt aftermarket will have all this.

Its nice to have, but I am yet to see an aftermarket sunroof that doesn't give problems after a while, leaks are almost guaranteed.

I would not do it.

I haven't seen anyone that can install a sun roof identical to BMW's factory sun roof.

It wont add value to your car and trust me like most owners you wont use it often

I've seen an e30 with an aftermarket sunroof fitted & it was fitted further back than the factory sunroof due to the above info..i would not fit an aftermarket sunroof....i would sell and buy another car or go without

Oooh. e30. I love e30.
As mentioned, there are some structural differences. You're going to cut the car anyway, so I think you should bit the bullet and get an OEM roof.

Aah aftermarket sunroof , one of the main reasons why I used to see so many roof rust damaged E30s at the scrap yards back in the day. Dont do it . It will ruin the car , rust the roof, cause leaks , annoying wind noise and endless headaches in the long run.
Not all 325i E30s had sunroofs , I have seen many without.

I have looked at doing this many many times on my E46 - No one was willing to provide me with a 100% guarantee in writing that it will not leak - i decided against it
