Sunroof

So, I get home yesterday, close my sun roof, get out of my car, lock the car....as I am walking to the house I realize I forgot my phone in the car, so I go back to the car, to find that the sunroof is stuck. It somehow got stuck lower then the normal position, kinda of reversed version of the tilt. Half way going down to open into the roof lining.

So, since I got a permanatly attached OBDll reader to my car, I can't just take it in....had to take the reader out first, which means take the cover between flow lining off, and the cover that covers your obdll connector. Not that it is much work, but I really didn't feel like doing it. Never the less, still did it.

Go to the dealership, ask one of the guys I usually deal with, he sits in my car and holds the sun roof button in for 30 secs or a minute, cant remember. Then the sun roof resets it self and is fixed. Was at the dealer ship for 2 minutes!

What makes me angry is that on the Owner's Book, they show you how to manually close it which requires taking the center light things out and some more manual labour. But instead of telling you how to reset it, they say that "In case you need to reset your sunroof, we recommend you come to one of the steallers."

At least I got my roof fixed. :)

Yeah the buggers would rather have u fiddling with a screwdriwer and pliers to try and close the thing manually and in the process u scratch or damage the interior bits than inform u how to easily reset the roof without any tools, idiots they are.

I suspect the real reason is that BMW don't want class action legal suits where people have decapitated themselves while in the reset mode:banghead: Remember warnings and procedures are drawn up for the lowest common demoninator. And I bet that in some cases if there is a genuine problem with the mechanism/ rails hitting reset will result in a mangled roof. iI can just imagine the sunroof folding itself in half and taking the headliner with it.

One question... I have problems with my sunroof, and I need to go buy a lever (the tilting of my sunroof) and replace it... however, now that I read you can reset your sunroof, will it reset my e36 sunroof?

Hold the button on tilt position to do it for 60 secs. Not sure if it will work. But maybe you should get the lever first
