Sunroof Swap

Hey chaps, this thread is actually part of my "restoring my M3" thread and seeing as that I had to do a swap with my sunroof, i thought I would post this with some pics, never know who it may help!

My sunroof was dying and I found a complete one in working order at a scrapyard for R800. Obviously I had to swop some things around! Happy reading!

This was the replacement Sunroof I got from the scrapyard

First, remove the three nuts holding the lid onto the support bar

Then using a spline and working carefully, remove the two splines that attach the steel lid to the mechanism runners

Yes there was quite a build up of scrapyard k@k on the runners and the cassette itself!

Once all the upholstery parts are removed it is time for a pressure wash. Just take it easy and don't use a jet, rather use mist. I used clean green as a detergent!

The sunroof interior slide cover being cleaned, take care not to get it too wet as this will present yet another "challenge" later.

The upholstery was coming off my sunroof slide cover, so I used "contact adhesive" to re do it. Take your time and do small sections at a time, this took the longest!!! The result is worth the time spent, also make sure your work surface is clean, this is part of your roof lining remember!!!

The completed product, sunroof swopped and ready for re fitment. i used a product from Wurth called HHS 2000 and HHS DryLube to lubricate the rails. This is an aerosol type "grease" and has a great capillary action. I lubricated all the mechanicals and cables with the same product.

Guys this is just an overview, I have done this twice now and if you need any further information, pls don't hesitate to PM me. I cant guarantee that I will have an answer but you may never know!!

I will be posting back in my M3 thread again!
