Sunroof or not.. What's your preference

Aesthetically a sunroof looks awesome on a BMW, but it's not a priority for me. And the added weight is neither here nor there for me too - not a fan of convertibles in most cases for a number of reasons, one being that it usually means that the overall body stiffness is sacrificed.

As for the M3 wheels, I prefer the look of those 18's compared to those 19's (never liked the look of those to be honest)...

Personally not for me, I have one with and one without, I'd choose other extras ahead of the sunroof. If you keep your cars for longer as in my case you eventually get terrified to use it for fear of it braking. Mine packed leaving Jhb en route back to Durbs once - not a pleasant trip.

Plus having to put on sunblock and a cap to take our car out seems a little daft.

That said - I do agree 100% that with the tilt setting activated parked off they do look "cool as fu%k" !

I dont know exact numbers, but just from what I have seen, I would say that 90% of all the E92 M3's in south africa have carbon roofs, no sunroof.

IMO getting a sunroof instead of a carbon roof is insane. havent looked at the spec sheet, but is carbon roof an option that you must pay for? or is sunroof actually an option that you must pay for? ie, a sunroof is more expensive than carbon roof?

I agree the Sunblock and cap. I never use a sunroof in cars I have driven. aspecially between 10am and 4pm in the afternoon then the sun beats you from above

The sunroof has to be an option- it always is

If you think the weight is an issue then lose 10 of your own kilos IMO. I like having a sunroof, I usually leave it tilted up - I like the looks of it.

Those are always my thoughts when checking in on a plane--- surely heavier passengers ought to pay for their overweight- lol

No sunroof, just a convertible for me. See, I hated convertibles until my lady convinced me to drive one (E93 335i). If I ever purchase a sedan or coupe, the sunroof will be a must.

Does the M3 M-Dynamic have a carbon roof? I'd take that for track days, bugger a sunroof!

Me previous bmw, although a 320d, had the sunroof, and the kids were crazy about it, and I liked it too.
When I bought my current ride, it didn't have one. In the beginning I missed it, but after a few weeks all was good, and life carried on.
I won't mind having a sunroof again, or a convertible would also be nice, but it would have to be in a 3-series at least or the Z4, cause I saw a guy driving a 125i convertible the other day and sorry to all the 1 series guys here, and no offence to our gay community... ULTRA GAY!! :blab:

So you honestly telling me that you would take the 18" look over the diamond cut 19's?

I prefer the 18's. :thumb: I actually don't like the 19's. :fencelook:

Sent on the run from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So sell me your ugly 19's

:nono:
The 19 inch competition pack wheels are awesome though.
In any case the 19's won't fit on your 550i.
And yes, I am looking for a set of 18 inch M3 wheels.

I still remember driving home through the freestate at night with the sunroof open full moon and heaps of stars, the feeling was awsome. I had just pickedup the motorsport E36 and it was my first sunroof.

Sunroofs come and go. When I don't have one i occasionally miss it. When you do have one you occasionally use it. Otherwise you close it and forget it is there.

Carbon roof is standard and the sunroof is an option.:flyfun:

In any case, my sunroof in the 325i is only tilted 99% of the time, never open it.

My 1M does not have a sunroof and there was no option to even get one. And to be honest, I don't miss the sunroof.

Me ex e46 330i also didn't have a sunroof, but had other options that outweighed the sunroof.

Carbon Fibre Roof for me..

I dont care if it is 10kg Lighter, it makes me feel special - the whole roof made out of carbon fibre. The cool factor is also higher for me knowing I have an entire Carbon fibre roof. I see guys modding the new M5 to have CF roofs.

Its not about going sideways around every corner, its about knowing you can, its not about the 10kg lighter, its about knowing your car is 10kg lighter because of the CF roof.

That said, on any other car, id take the Sunroof.

Im a coloured South African and for us(heavy broad statement about to follow) an M3/325is or GTi MUST, MUST, MUST have a sunroof...its part of the appeal of those cars...

On another note, i don't think you can categorize "fanatics" by categories you've made up...such as some don't care about weight for example lol.

Do you like fresh air?
Do you hate not having that tinted piece of glass between you and the non-BMW driving peasants outside?
A sunroof solves your problems!

I only really use my sunroof at night.
I'm even scared of just having that piece of glass between me and the sun during mid-day, being ginger and all.
