discussion Summit Autoparts components

Hallo all,

Just a question about suspension parts brands. Does anyone have any experience with Summit Automotive parts?

I'm getting new upper control arms for my F30 - the rubber bushing on the righthand one is leaking oil. My trusted mechanic recommends Summit ... the price per arm is middle-of-the-range so I'm not expecting miracles, but hoping it'll last more than 50 000 Km :)

Never heard of them. I’m always suspicious when a mechanic recommends anything.
From what I know they’re not an OEM supplier.

Cry once, buy reputable brand parts or risk buying twice. Maybe Summit is great and I’ve just not heard of them, I know Meyle and Lemforder.

Support Nastaliq's comment above. However if you do go with it, a rule of thumb if you're fitting pirate suspension parts is to at least use OEM hardware. There are some parts that will be fine for mundane/daily use but come with hardware that is rubbish or expect that you will be providing your own hardware/reusing bolts that should be single-use etc. The hardware is often what fails... and in the case of suspension components this could be catastrophic. One thing for a bushing to feel terrible or fail prematurely. Another matter entirely for a bolt to shear or come loose.

If it is for your own use, I would go with an OEM (or Lemforder/Meyle) part knowing it's going to be fine for 100K+ km or whatever stresses you put it through. If you're sending it over to WBC for a sale (or will do so in the near future), then by all means go with the cheaper option.
