Strange symptoms after oil change N52B30

Hi all,

Any one else experienced sticky vanos solenoid ?

Car used to run castrol edge 10w60 - changed due to constant engine oil level notifications when the car was hammered for a couple of km's .

But never had the solenoids stick.

Currently on Liqui Molly top tec 4200 (5w30) ever since the change - on cold start the cars idling fluctuates a lot, and fuel consumption went down the drain.

No EML present and diag only shows P1554.

Removed both solenoids and cleaned them out, refitted and the car is ok for about 20km thereafter.

Do I go back to the castrol oil or do you guys have any suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

The Castrol edge 10w/60 is waaaay to thick for your motor... I have had nothing but good experience with shell ultra and its a 40 weight as well..

The correct oil for that engine is 5W30. The 10W60 is far too high, no wonder you get sticky vanos solenoids.

If the problem persists, you should consider replacing the vanos solenoids and the oil level sensor, they are known to fail or give incorrect readings.

Thanks Blue Shirt, I think I will replace them and get some decent oil from the steelers for now.

Steelers oil is actually cheaper than Midas (with the discount)

For 7 (1litres) & Oil Filter You pay R710

That is the correct Shell Helix 5w 30 (Branded BMW Oil)
