Strange sound from rear axle?

Hi,

I have been hearing a strange rattling sound from rear axle. not sure what it is? More like a grinding tin sound..any ideas?:flyfun:

Car: 325i coupe E92

I'd say check your diff oil level, friend of mine had a similar thing on his e36 m3 and it was the gears in the diff running dry..... eventually his diff died and he had to source a new one.

has any work been done to your car recently ..ie brake pads change, or did you hit something, even if ever so lightly ?....or has this noise started to manifest itself "out of the blue"

I would find it strange that the diff is on its way out on such a "young" car

Im also experiencing the same grinding and irritating noise on my diff..im driving the E46 2002 model with 230km on the clock. im not sure if the wear and tear on the diff or its just the oil thou the previous owner claims he had it checked.
