strange noise

whats the problem in this video causing the noise on 318? Do I need to worry?

It sounds like a loose pulley or something :/ Maybe the viscous fan?

the way to find out exactly where the sound is coming from is to take the longest and thinnest screwriver, place the handle into your ear and place the point of the screwdriver onto any/every part that you suspect the noise is coming from, this in effect works like a doctors stephoscope, and the sound is applified, but the sound will also be more localized, ie you will easily be able to identify EXACTLY where it emminates from.

from the vid the noise seems to be coming from the intake area not the pulleys...

to me is sounds like something loose on the intake... i would take all the moving parts off the intake and have a look at them...

Only happens during winter when cold. I never hear the sound during summer time. Even though I have a E30, it might be the same thing?

Does the sound go away once the car has wormed up??

Maybe its the DISA valve...

I had similar on my 318i.. Was the DISA in the intake..
