Strange call today, need advise

On my way to work I got a phone call from my wife saying the tenants called to say there is a guy outside my house in Cape Town (I have relocated temp to Namibia) who says he has come from Mossel Bay to buy my BMW. That was all I got 3rd hand from my tenant via my wife. So I let her know that the BMs are definitely not for sale. Thinking this poor guy has been scammed... maybe someone advertised under my name and he made a payment!! Expecting the worst...

Anyway the guy calls me directly and he is the guy that used to own the M5 and he tracked my address down (another cois no doubt) Apparently he had tried to get hold of Jeff (the owner before me) as well. The car used to belong to his dad before hime and he was forced to sell it because business got really bad and he regretted it ever since and would like to buy it back. He had driven down from Mosselbay in his car with the plan to sell his car and buy mine. He basically camped outside my house until he saw someone.

The guy seemed really genuine and now I am of two minds what to do. I had thought of getting rid of it before going to Namibia but I really like it, but thinking of getting a more original and lower km version as recently several have come up for grabs.

Not sure what to do now... This guy really wanted the car back for sentimental reasons. I always see cars more as people than machines and now I feel like I have someone else's car.

I think you just answered your own question there. If you are not attached to the car and can get another one in a condition you prefer, then why not.

This is very difficult situation
I would say sell it if you are able to replace it with a better example..lower kms
This way,you and the guy would be happy

Finding these in good and original condition is getting harder by the day, so have to consider that. Depends on what he is willing to pay too. Difficult decision...

If his sentimental needs can put you in a better financial position(newer car with lower mileage etc) then go for it....

No one is robbing anyone here....he seems to need it more than you.....so he should be willing to pay what you feel you deserve

+1

But make sure it's a cash deal. Inside a bank.

I don't give out personal details like id numbers or addresses when people ask me for a vehicle check.
I give vehicle history, and amount of owners, that's all.

Don't sell if you don't want to. Yes its a bit of an emotional dilemma and one cant help but feel sorry for the guy. If it were me, I would only sell if its gonna be super beneficial on my part were I know for a fact that I can get a better upgrade

Hi Coisman. I know. I meant he has a contact... our Cois has iron clad scruples!!

So anyway... I am going to work out how much I have in it. How much I would pay for a face lift in very good nick and give the guy a price. I am not going to be using it for the next 1-2 years so that gives me time to find a good one.

If he takes it he takes it.
