Mine also stopped working for an entire day, regardless of what I tried.....it was a cold winter day, most of the guys at worked also experienced the same issue....

The next morning it was back online...

How old is your battery? Are you doing lots of short trips?

Is the aircon/heat on, as the start/stop won't engage if the cabin has not reached the desired temperature, if this is the case then there could be a leak in your aircon....

I've read lots of posts stating that the start/stop won't engage until the car warmed up to operating temperature, this is absolute nonsense.....

Get the car on diagnostics to be safe

Any way to disengage it, as a default option?
I don't use it and when starting, have to manually switch it off.

On the X1, it does just that, within the first 2-3 minutes of starting from cold, the stop start does not activate. I can't confirm temps, but it doesn't feel like it waits for full operating temps( 90deg), seems to start working lower around 65-70 if i had to guess.

Weird I guess, on all the F-series car I have owned it always activated within a minute after cold start, much to my annoyance as it slows down the warm-up

I hate that feature, it definitely places stress on the starter, besides being a major nuisance, it’s the first thing I disengage after starting the car

I used Carly to switch that 'feature' off. On short trips it just places too much stress on the battery!

BMW should really have an easier option to switch that on or off using the iDrive as opposed to only being able to do it by coding...

I've noticed that lots of batteries have been giving up recently, I had the same issue. See the graph of battery voltage vs % charge below, if your battery measures less than 12.5V it might be on its way out. Also start/stop will not work with a low battery. Hope this helps

Apparently, you can code this feature.

Yes this can be coded to remember last setting or stay off when you start the vehicle.

Going to make some enquiries.
Absolutely useless function for me and just gets in the way when I'm driving.
Thanks

Mine has always seemed to work at random, it will switch off at the weirdest times like when you just want to pull away to take a gap at a T junction for example :eek:mgwaiting: and then when you are literally sitting in the Steers (yum yum) queue in the drivethru you would expect it to switch off but NO.. It refuses, it will idle along until you reach pickup and then switch off.. I have given up trying to match the official rules for the input sensor data it uses vs what happens in real world, it is all random.. :hammerhead: I keep the gearbox is DS a lot though so mine rarely is in use..

I think the various factors it checks will definitely make it seem random. SOme of the stuff i picked up ( on the net as well on the car)

- First 2-3 min, it wont engage,
- by pressing the pedal very lightly when coming to a stop, it wont engage
- if steering is turned more than 180degrees( or 270, not 100% sure) from centre it wont switch off.
- you can get the car to start by pressing hard on the brake pedal
- if the aircon is on really cold and the cabin has not cooled sufficiently it will not switch off. It will start up if the cabin gets too hot
- it will not engage if battery is too low.

There are probably more, these are the ones i am aware of and seen occur on my car.

I hate the damm thing and also switch it off after starting, absolutely useless, put there to cut emissions and remain compliant to World regulations regarding "green house gas emission factors" or some other crap :cartel:
