Give me your e-mail please.

I know that the mods are bullett proofed...but not necessary for street legal cars! Even with Semis you struggle to reach the g force to destroy the engine...

I modified a street legal M3E36 in germany and even with semis on the north loop I was not able to kill the engine! But there were also no major mods on wheel alignment (minor increase of chamber only for example)....

Perfect, mine will not be street-legal......caged, gutted, suspension ect to the highest spec that I can afford.

@ Stig46 apologies for the 'thread-jack'

Sounds as though you've made good progress...cage and exhaust done. Please post pic's of the cage....particually interested in the boot area. I want to peruse how they have 'tied' the rear subframe in. Cheers

Bud I am no expert as you know but I am in business and as far as I would be concerned you would need to get onto the track and prove yourself before you can even hope of getting a sponsor. Dont make the mistake most guys do when they start out which believe it or not, i have heard so many times in the short time I have been racing.
"I have a cool race car and I cant believe I have no sponsors!" and yet nothing has been done to attract the sponsor/s.
Unless you lucky enough to know someone that may sponsor you, you need to start racing, prove yourself then formally invite the potential sponsor/s to a few race events and show them the benefits of why they should sponsor you. Make sure you invite them to the bigger events also, a track day may not be good enough due to the lack of spectators.

There are so many people claiming to have race cars (especially on forums) and yet most of them dont even have a cage in them and most have never even been raced and this has made sponsors very cautious of signing cheques.

So my suggestion is forget or the "lekka stuff" that people claim you MUST do on forums, keep it simple and start racing in series where you will get the most exposure for sponsors, then present them almost a type of CV with a cost break down of what is needed and what upgrades you plan in order to get faster and most importantly what they will get.
Use second hand tyres, and do whatever you can to get out on track. - i have been racing for a year next month and I have just put my first set of new tires on the car. I have been using second hand worn ones that people have thrown away up until now. I needed to focus on my driving more than anything else first. As you know I run a standard 328 motor, no lower rear adjustable control arms, cheap 330 brake discs and yellow stuff pads in front (standard at the back), no fancy solid engine mounts etc, second hand suspension, that is at least 5 years old, standard BMW management and all the glass and even the drivers side electric window are still in place ----so save your money, do the basics to get out there and get out there! -strip, cage, upgrade front brake pads and suspension.
My car was not running when I got it. Took me 3 and a half months to get on track for the first time (Kyalami where i ran a 2:19 which is slow but in series like 111 there are much slower cars) which was also the first time I drove it (apart from the odd trip around the block where i live) - i did it all myself, and If i can do it then anyone can do it.

Trailers are expensive, so start hiring one until you can afford to buy one.

Sorry I went on a bit, but trying to help. :)

Bruce what you have posted is sheer common sense which by all accounts is not as common as one would have you believe.

Well said

Thanks Bruce . I hear what you saying .

Although on the trailer subject . It costs R500 one way to use trailer for a day. Wouldn't It make more sense just to like finance the damn thing for R200 per month ?

I dont know can you finance them? If yes then I agree do it. But its no use buying one if you dont have a track ready car.

Remember Im talking from a limited budget point of view....how I did mine.

Sorry for a bit OT...but there is already a lot...

Due to the fact that I am also thinking about a track car (maybe also racing) I have two questions;

1) How many track days are there per year around Joburg?

2) How many race events are there around Joburg?

AndreaSA its very dependent on where you going to be racing/what series. I have 14 race days for this year. 6 of them are with the BMW club and are track days with time trials and racing, and the rest are race events.

as bruce says and also not to mention , every wednesday is open practise at the Z, and i'm sure with the recent acquisition of Kyalami , soon we'll see a similar thing happen there too.

Phakisa is also not that far away.

That's a sizable budget needed right there......but awesome that you get to do soooo many events.

Also, Zwartkops has open track days once a month (in addition to Wednesday practise), and Midvaal is open 7 days a week.

There is also Red Star raceway outside Delmas, used to be a bike-only track but they do now cater for cars, there was a track day there not too long ago so also something to keep an eye on.

And a number of Auto-X events that happen too, typically around the go-kart tracks and ovals. Not the same but good fun too.
