Hi Guys,

My steering wheel is looking a little worse for wear.

What are my options on bringing it back to life or is going hunting in a scrap yard
my best bet.

Three options.

1) Buy Brand new from BMW
2) Recover
3) Scrapyard hunt for one in better condition.

(2) is tricky as not many places in SA can do it right. I had Royal Steering Wheels do my M3's wheel in the UK:

There's a guy in PMB who restores this type of item...not sure what method he uses. Sanjay at Colour Glo

you can also get the Leather covers already made online (eBay) and do it yourself. Google you will see how easy.

If the leather is not torn or damaged , There are guys who sand them down and respray them . .

I used a product called Autosol leather cleaner , comes in a tube . That worked really well for me .

Whats wrong with your wheel ? Is it torn ? you could try cleaning it . remove it from the car , strip it apart and try cleaning the wheel . I had some success with that on my E30s Mtech 1 wheel . Just need someone to fix the stitching now . I cleaned it with dish washing liquid under a tap of running hot water , then cold water , using a sponge while applying some pressure . It cleaned it up really well . The results were like night and day and I even got the Matt finish back.
