Steering column alarm

That's quite interesting! So now the steering lock is basically disabled (so a bit of a risk in terms of theft). Thankfully my steering lock has behaved ever since the agents updated the software - there was apparently a software fault that was causing my steering lock issue which was intermittent.

Maybe give Garage808 a try, they are in the Northern Suburbs.

Yeah. The steering lock itself is completely disconnected, but BMW's solution to the problem is the same. The replacement steering column that they want to install doesn't have a steering lock either. So I am relying on the immobilizer.

I went to Garage 808 yesterday. They reset the alarm for me in under 20 min. Very professional. The alarm is gone from the CAS and the car is still driving great.

Hmm, there was a DIY on the E90Post forum - the problem is usually the motor actuator that locks the steering fails or gets sticky from the grease drying up. But I can see we are going to all have problems with this one day - all because we have to have fancy key fobs instead of the tried and trusted physical KEY!! :nonono:

Found the DIY. Its not a little job.

I had the same problem yesterday. Car was parked with wheels turned. The orange steering error showed (Error 187). The car didn't want to start. Car was towed to BMW Fountains. It took them 3 hours to reset the electrics, no parts used and they charged R 2700.00!!!!!!

This is a strange fault on these cars IMO , mine is "RED" for a month now.. everything working as normal ..unlock & lock. 3 days ago I get into the car and felt the steering not locked , so I gently tuck at it and it locks, cool , then I insert my remote and OMG "YELLOW" alarm and just tick no start, I almost gave birth let alone K@K my self.. I removed my remote and gently tucked at it again , carefully inserted the remote & alarm RED again and so far it is "normal" under this conditions. SO ja who knows what this is all about?
