Hi All,

I just got a quote form our local "stealers" to replace an age-ing M3 clutch.
20k I tell you! Although I must admit that it didn't shock me as I was expecting something along those lines! How on earth do you justify that?

:blab: :blab: :blab: :roflol: :roflol:

a car thats worths so much and a component which has so high importance, which is used everytime you drive, i some how dont think thats very expensive.Maybe it would of been expensive or a golf or corolla, but for a high spec car like the m3, i think thats the correct price.

Yes to an extent I do agree, however I also drive a Navara 2.5 dci 4x4 and the clutch went at 51000km, the price R17k, now my wife drives a 3 D4d fortuner 4*4, comparitive quote form Toyota on a clutch job, (just for comparison) R5480.00. So why such a price diff????

Maybe the Navara got a performance clutch too?:roflol::roflol:

My dad replaced a clutch, flywheel and a bunch of other things on his Mitsubishi Colt Rodeo for a little under R7k at Mitsubishi Brooklyn...

Some dealers are just ridiculous. The cool part is when you take your car for service and then they call you back with a quote. They say these amounts so casually, like they're selling you a pair of shoes or toilet paper

You should have told that guy you just had a heart attack recently regarding BMW part prices, you don't need another one :shakehead:

They deliberately do this, sales tactic reasons of course

try any spares place for the LUK kit at most it will be 8k elsewhere for the clutch and flywheel...

you can also go on realoem and see if the part numbers are used on any other cars because some guys like to raise the price if you say M3... then you tell them its for say a '328i'...

MAF for E39 540i from agents, R6300. After I pulled myself up off the floor I phoned Diesel Electric, R2300 for the same part so guess where I bought it...

Yep chaps, we got to be sharp nowadays or we will pay dearly for " school fees". I honestly don't mind a price hike cos it's agents but hell, don't bankrupt us! We are after all fanatics/enthusiasts that's why we drive what we do and not a something else!

All you do is find out what manufacturer the agents use for that particular part...LUK in this instance and go and source it from a spares shop. You can even get proven performance items that have good reviews on the net. Buy that instead -

Reminds me of the time I needed to buy control arms and bushes two years ago . 10K for parts alone. I shook my head an left. I got it all for 3K installed.
