It is not lazy owners

It is the unleaded fuel. I clean mine regularly and it gets dirty after a bit of driving I use a metal polish which brings it back to life time after time. Also the Karcher gets most of the black off.

i worry about water remaining in the exhaust box and causing rust when using the the karcher on the exhaust, unless i know for sure i will be driving it soon after washing.

I sometimes wash my car just to park it in the garage.

I luckily have no more back box and when I do wash the tips the car is on a bit of a steep uphill in the driveway so I'm certain no water travels too far up the pipes.

I normally use Brasso on mine. U'll need a pair of sunglasses to look at those pipes after you use that stuff:=):

Just the tip with a quick splach and well it is out side so the sun does it's work and also have a slight incline into the garage but I get what you mean. Lol it is stainless tips and still about two years on motorplan :=):

Auto Finesse Mercury!!! I swear by that stuff!

But my car has black tail pipes, so I use Auto Glym metal cleaner to clean them out.

But remember, finish off the pipes with a wax or sealant that seals the shine. I use a wheel wax / sealant, due to the high heat resistance properties - this will prolong the shine.

For pipes that need a one time clean up, especially pipes that have caked up soot bonded to the metal, I use ultra fine grade steel wool and gently work out the dirt with a bit of Mercury.

This method is a last resort, and should be used with care and caution as you can scratch your tail pipes pretty badly this way.

Also, DO NOT use ordinary steel wool - ultra fine is a very specific type of steel wool and is thinner than human hair, making the abrasive properties a lot finer and easier to manage.

I think you can hit it out from behind.
Might sound dramatic but that's how you get it out
