Sport Suspension

Hi All

Ive recently bought a 2004 318i M sportpack. Ive been told that this car has a sport suspension.

can anyone please explain to me how this would actually help me as opposed to a standard 318i.

i know it sounds stupid, cos ive had cars with upgraded suspension, but i was told that this is a factory mod.

please help.

I cut my standard springs to lower my ride. Can you guys advise any down side to that except for stiffer ride?

IMO- personally i wouldn't cut my springs- you lose the qualities the springs have and have a danger of the springs collapsing- (if you do cut it- you need somebody who knows how to cut them to sit at the same height.)
i would buy after market springs that are shorter and if you don not like it you can put the standard ones back.
the other option is to get your springs compressed.

"" When springs are engineered, they are designed for a certain spring ratio for a given ride height. Cuttting springs mess up ur spring rate hence the reason for the harsh ride. The next thing is that it will be virtually impossible to cut each spring so that they will have equal spring rates. DO NOT DO THIS. buy the kit with the ride height and quality u want and do ur research into spring rates etc, another option u can try is to buy one of those tein setups. This is the best but most EXPENSIVE option. They are cool since with these setups u can adjust the ride height, spring rates, etc. Suspension and brakes are the two things you should NEVER be cheap with trust me. ""

this is just my opinion- (i have seen cut springs go wrong):dropjaw:
somebody else might have better experience.

BMW has spent millions on millions of euros developing their cars, including suspensions. Why mess with what theyve done.

This sport suspension holds the road much better than my brothers standard 318i. his is a 2003 model exclusive, mine is a 2004 m pack. both with the same amount of power but i destroy him in the corners.

big ups to BMW.

one of the bigest dangers with cut springs are that they can shift/unseat when the suspension becomes unladen, making the car shoot off in an unexpected direction when the suspension loads up again .. dangerous stuff :mmm:
