It is an optional extra and you can feel a difference. Heavier steering, better throttle repsonse and my personal favourite, a popping exhaust. With practice I've managed to get it to double tap on the pops too.

Interesting, I get popping on the JCW even without the Sport button (don't try it too often though). Will slap it on next time and see what she does.

What colour is your JCW? Do you have pics? Love the JCW's :inlove:

 I can always burn a CD with Popping sounds on

 post the pics now

now I wonder if it's standard on the 2011 models. Really hope so as Mini is trying to put me into a 2011 Cooper S. Went for a test drive today and my word did that little car put a smile on my face

So much miss-information... :nonono:

The sport button is a R1200 extra on the Cooper S and R3200 extra on the Cooper models at the time when i was working for MINI. The JCW comes with the Sport Button, DTC and Slip Diff Standard.

There are no valves in the exhaust, the steering is not affected and there is no increase in power. All it does is make the car more responsive by increasing the throttle sensitivity. The steering on the newer models after 2010 are hugely revised with new management, you may think its the Sport Button doing it, but its just the newer steering system doing its thing. The steering difference between the early R56's and post 2010 models is startling to say the least.

Furthermore, all R56 Cooper S models come with an over boost function with an additional 20 or so Nm torque between 2000 & 5000RPM. This is always functioning and is standard.

The popping sounds are a function of the over boost feature and simply require the release of the throttle at a certain RPM with adequate boost.

Any Cooper S will cackle and pop even in idle... Give it a blip to 2500RPM and it will spit and bobble nicely.

Thanks for the info minimike, well don't know how the car feels with sport mode as I didn't use it in the test, sure didn't feel like it needed a sport mode

I used to spec all my cars with it. Mostly because its cheap and because it fits in line with the image and sportiness of the Cooper S.

The Sport Button is nasty for normal driving... It makes the car jerky in traffic etc. Where it is an epic addition is on roads like the twisties over camps bay or on route to Hout Bay.

The car feels more alive, it feels more willing and it just gives you that edge in the driving experience. It does use more fuel because the motor is constantly on edge but I love it.

Post up the spec of the MINI they trying to sell you, can tell you if its a good buy.

grey 2011 cooper S with full panoramic sunroof and the wired package ( smart phone connect , satnav ...) for 245 but they have to try and get rid of my 320d which is loosing value very fast since the new 3 series popped up.
Will know tomorrow or Tuesday morning. Oh and it only has 30 000km on the clock.

Just be wary, that with the exception of the sunroof your mini at trade in time will be scored as a bog standard car despite the R18k odd wired package.

Its not the end of the world but dont expect anything above trade on it down the line... People hate the cloth sports seats and having no spec package kills the deal for many as you dont get all the little things like the hidden dash compartment, interior lighting package, chrome bits and bobs etc.

Also keep in mind that new that car was R280k so price seems a bit steep, are you buying from a mini stealer or other dealer?

mini stealer , but at the moment my 320d is loosing value faster than any mini will. I have to decide to be married to the mini or the BMW after the test drive I'm leaning toward the Mini. fun little car

the BM puts a smile on my face but that still gives me a smile on my face. Remember my BM is sitting on 86000km and the mini only 30000km also to extend the m/plan on the BM is going to be R40k the kilos on the bm is the killer

Which dealer? Sorry if this sounds harsh but I think you need to look at another MINI.

Aim for Chilli Pack, Pan Roof and Full Leather. That sells, else in 3 years you going to be back in the same boat as you are now. If you can get Harmon kardon then snatch it, also MINI has loads of limited edition camdens and Mayfairs from 2010/2011 around still...

If you can get that, take it and run as they are more desireable than even the JCW because of their spec.

Give Mbali at Auto Atlantic a call and see if she can hook you up with a better deal and settle the Beemer - 021 402 7803

cool thanks for all the info bud. Will have a look at what else is floating around.

Really thought it was a good buy, anyway, back to the drawing boards
