The final work done on the car was the repair of the cluster which did not illuminate the odometer and readout section.
Along comes Gert with his goodies and attends to it.

Turns out that it was not the LED but the controller chip so he had to take it away and repair it in his lab as there is a severe shortage of electronic repair equipment in my tool box.
Forgot to take a pic of the cluster after having been repaired.

This has been one of the more enjoyable cars I have worked on as it has presence.
The stance on the car is absolutely perfect
It is absolutely clean and dent free and has been looked after by its previous owner.

The exhaust is absolutely insane. It is the type of car that you want to have in a tunnel so as to immerse yourself in its exhaust tone.
The best system by a country mile imho.

I equally got to meet Anthony on Thursday night when he flew up to collect the car. Had to remind him that it is on CA plates after not having had it for so long.

Car is back home now having been cleaned and hand polished to bed.

Q: what's the reasoning behind soaking the oil filter cartridge in oil prior to fitment?

Is it to speed up circulation of oil throughout the motor? i.e no hindrance imposed by the dry cartridge on oil flow?

Exactly for the reason you propose.

When the motor is having a regular oil change there is existing oil in the galleries to lubricate the moving parts for the time that it takes the oil to permeate the filter and start travelling.
In the case where a head has been stripped of all oil as well as the oil galleries have been flushed the flow of oil will take longer (maybe a second or 5) so you want to negate a dry run period by taking the above precautions.

I agree with Peter wholeheartedly. This is one of THE cleanest E46 M3's around. And the bit that I cannot get over is just how smooth this motor runs. Not blowing smoke up anyone's arse, but there is something to be said for being OCD when it comes to setting clearances and vanos on these motors.

Iam gonna say this, went to visit Peter a few months back, heard Adis car idle, sounds like it jus came of the assembly line to smooth and quiet it was, was really impressed.

All I can see is Wow!!! When the car is idling, you can barely hear the motor!! Its insanely smooth!!! The car itself is going like a rocketship....

The drive down was great, The last hour being the best, as I was instructed to "drive it like I stole it" :) (The First 1500km I couldnt go over 5k RPM)

Best money ever spent!

The E92 M3 will be heading up next month!

Nothing like knowing those annoying flaws have been sorted.
