All I will say is that I wish these laser speed trapping thingies would be "turned" to catch bad and inconsiderate drivers for a change!

All I want to know what detector works best and who has one? Yes speed kills if your car cant handle it and if you drive reckless between cars. Look at the Autobahn. Yes it wont work in this country because the Autobahn we have is made for Taxis :yuck:

I see lots of unroadwurthy cars in Cape town on N2 and N7 and around the Airport. early mornings and late at night. No lights no brakes etc. and cops just drive past them because they also fear for their life in these areas. Scary things happen around the airport in Cape Town. A few people were attempted to be forced off the road and nearly every day their are bricks or concrete blocks in the road I personally have made it through a few of them. Other trick is they put Cardboard boxes that are folded open in the road with nails in them showing upwards in Bishop Lavis area towards Stellenbosh Arterial road.(thanks to BMW I have Runflats and ill get away but if you have a toyota you have problems)So now I drive slowly and if the situation arises that a car is following me I put foot because your life depends on it.

Sorry got a bit off track there but the Law is no longer in control over these criminals and will rather Nail us Law abiding citizens because its much much easier. another example is my cellphone got stolen and I tracked it to the location live and they said to me they cant go now. After a day and making a fuss then they wanted to go but it was to late by then. The one Police Lady even told me once at the airport shes not going outside its to cold no matter what. I'm not attacking anyone I am just sharing my experience. I can give many examples. And as I said I also cant expect two cops just to stop and pull off a car in that area for there might be another 10 gangsters in the bushes. Its getting bad down at the coast also

Would it be illegal to fit an explosive devise under your seat that you can remotely trigger via cell phone ... ?? I mean if they jack your cab .. you borrow a phone and five min later .. booom they get it up the ass nicely ?? Rate insurence will cover it ?? Small explosion just enough to rip him another one ... off topic I know

Come let's keep this on topic. And just for reference it is illegal to use a laser jammer. However it is not illegal to own or buy one.

We had a zr3 shifter in our v10 touareg. It was a very handy device. Whether it actually jammed the signal I don't know but it beeped and gave you time to slow down.

There is now a newer one but it's old by now aswell

so is a Jammer the one that actually sits by the number plate or the one that's mounted to your Windscreen?

What about the traps from behind if you use the one on the front windscreen?

have no experience about this thus the dof questions?

A laser detector will only warn you after the laser gun has been fired at you and the beam returned to the gun and your speed measured.
A laser jammer consists of the transponder (also a laser) mounted in the grill and the control and warning box inside the cabin. Once a laser gun is fired at you, your transponder intercepts the beam and fires its own beam at a different frequency. It does this for a period of 5 seconds with the alarm sounding. His camera/laser will display an "error" (normally error 7) During these 5 seconds of jamming you have ample time to slow down.
I have been using a Lidatek LE10 brute force jammer for 12 years and never had any problems. In any case I have seen the "speed teams" hiding so far in their nests that it will take a day to get out. I have seen them inside a wheely bin with a hole cut in, Lying next to the N1 inside a "Karoo bossie" with more "Karoo bossies"on his head,1mx1m Shade cloth hides.
They must of course prove that you have been using the device to defeat the ends of justice and to my knowledge it was tried but normally is withdrawn or people pay an admission of guilt fine.
Unfortunately speed trapping has become the no 1 money making business in SA and by that I do not condone speeding but sometimes you get deep in thought on a quiet road and you get caught doing 75 in a 60 zone.
If only so much effort was spend on road safety and patrolling less people would have died but it is not as easy as sitting and hiding in the bushes.
