South Africa's E30 convertible or was it

In the 80s, when everyone got the nice looking e30 convertible , SA got that half convertible car which they called the cabrio, which is French or convertible anyway.
Anyone know why?

It's called the Bauer cab. Then overseas got the full convertible.

I don't know why. I think it was a racist attack, they thought we were all dark and tanned enough, so we could only catch half the tan the rest of the world could and thus they would catch up

Yup, I'm familiar with Bauers work but back then everyone called it the cabrio- not so?

It was determined at the time that the market would not afford the full convertible so the cabrio production was maintained.

Back in the day (1982) a 535 was selling for R31000 new and a 323 exec for R23000 with the cabrio in 1983 at close to R25000.

Clearly not a deal for a prospective buyer in 1986/7 when they were released as they would have been very close in price to a 535 and certainly more expensive than a 525.

SA prices have always been messed up.i believe the e46 was assembled and shipped to the EU market, from Rosdlyn.
So how the hell could it have been priced twice as much as the EU markets .
They must take the buyers hot mugs.
