So I have irritated my buddy for years now to sell me his late dad's "Ford Ranchero 1972 500", so he finally gave in and want's to sell it to me.

The vehicle needs ALOT of TLC as he didn't have the cash to maintain it properly for the past couple of years.

Still has the original engine and 3 or 4 speed gearbox.

I KNOW this is not a BMW, but guys there's no better place I would love to share the project than here.

I would love to buy a M5 engine and transplant it into this.

Here are pics of the car:

What do you guys think

Lovely! Stick to a Ford (or Chev!) V8. Or even Lexus?! Much cheaper to fix and replace. Manual or auto will be a 3 speed box on the steering column. Except if aftermarket conversion?

Interior pics?

How much $'s?

Hey Phoenix.

Nice purchase.

I wouldnt toss the motor you got in there. You could purchase stroker kits complete for around 5-10k. It will have a lot of guts...and it is a straight forward motor.

My Father had a Ford ranchero with a 351 fairlane motor in it....My goodness....I liked it, a lot!!!

the 302 is also nice, i beleive you could develop a healthy amount of power, relatively cheap. If you not sold yet, a single turbo conversion is simple, and will give you exactly what you need....

Use it, dont use it.

Either way, enjoy it!

Stick to a Ford motor, get more power from this one or get one that's worked (maybe a 351 5.7L). There's lots to be done to the motor and it will not only go like stink it will sound gorgeous! those V8 sounds are to die for!

Nice buy and one you can work on yourself.

That motor is a 351? yes?

They are known to produce enough torque to pull Sandton City and enough Kw to embarass an M5.

Isky cam/Or/Edelbrock
Isky Solid Lifters
Edelbrock single plane manifold
Arias Pistons at 10:1

You could fuel inject it or go to a Holley 650cfm dual pumper carb

You could even import the new aluminium heads for it

But before you do anything have a chat with Chris (fordkoppie) he knows a thing or two or three about Ford V8s

Good Luck with your project that is a nice find and most unusual.

Okay so might just stick with the motor then, but the gearbox needs to go, really want a manual.

Will most probably be fetching it on the weekend  Will send fordkoppie a PM

I'd collect it and try get into running order as-is. Then drive it a bit and see if you enjoy it etc.

You may find that you don't want more than 200kw in an old bakkie lol

Currently the welsh plugs needs replacing, and engine mountings needs changing.

I will most prob do that first.

Well I am not really into American cars or in this case Australian because they are boats but, I do like these engines quite a lot. They have huge potential and was very much restricted, underpowered and unstressed as they came.

Not much can be added to what A1exander already suggested ito power adding accessories. Luckily they are relatively cheap and very simple to work on with readily available spares.

What I can say is keep the Ford V8, because if you ditch it for another brand engine, you marry the vehicle.
No one will ever want it afterwards. Whereas if you keep it with either the current small block or opt for a big block Ford V8, it will keep its value……… Or even appreciate in value if you do everything properly.

There are certain “rules” you have to comply with on these classics if you ever wish to recoup any of your investments should you decide to sell afterwards.

For example – that atrocious thing on the carb is a big nono. :nono:

This aircleaner :

………although rubbish, is the right image in most ownership circles

Be sure not to find a single body part or trimmings at the agents, so you will have to import everything from Australia.
