Sorry to hear man! Bastards,

But the possibility of stealing a bmw is very real, just dont think our crooks have the technology, YET!! check this 1m stolen in 3 mintus!

[video=youtube]

"BMW 1M stolen without keys in 3 minutes! This is a video of a £43,000 BMW 1M Stolen at 3am in 3 minutes. The thief's accessed the car's OBD port in the footwell by breaking the glass, reaching in and using a device to reprogram a blank key fob. The car was simply then unlocked and pushed off the drive and driven away. BMW don't seem to want to admit they have a problem, even though over 300 cars have been stolen in March 2012 in a single UK county. This is the device they use, which only takes seconds to re-program a key:"

Hang on but isn't every key cut differently how does a blank fob just start the car? Or am I missing something??

Remember theres an actual laser cut key, the metal type one, that you can open the door boot and glove compartment, as well as the plastic key(with the chip and transponder) inside, that can be reprogrammed to match the cars last known code. AS far as I know, hte system uses a rolling code on the car, so it changes each time. this is the reason another plastic key cannot open another car. Also, i read somewhere that the chip has an EEPROM (geek) that allows it to be written to only once. which is why, you cant reprogram a used key, but you CAN program a blank key.
