Ive done a decat and filter on my e46 328i. Improves fuel consumption quite a bit and the decat gives the exhaust that tinny m3 sound. Just check when u do the decat for that "scratchy" sound when u ref it. I had that sound because the air was traveling to quickly through the exhaust. Its not a problem. U just replace the middle box and no more scratch. Doing my ECU in a week or two. That would also give u a bit more torque and further improve fuel consumption.

Very realistic. I go a claimed 12kw just from removing the cats, you get about 1kw from the air filter and a further 5 - 15% increase from the ECU upgrade.

We did a decat and perfect power SMT7 chip on the E46 323i (the one we had turbo'ed now) and gained 12kw..
For the 20kw bracket you will need branches and full freeflow!

ChrisBrand where did you have it done and how much did it cost you for the decat? Did you also decat the front and rear?

@Epoc : I had the decat done at PowerFlow in Bellville Cape Town. The decat was R600 and the extra middle box to block out the scratch noise was R700. I only decatted the two cats under the "driver seat" if u can call them that. I know the m3 has four cats but i don't know about my 328i. Just had those two removed.

@moranor : The branches and full freeflow can only improve fuel consumption cause air flows more freely. The more "blockage" the harder it is for the air to flow in or out and the more fuel is used. The noise factor will probably depend on what brand of freeflow u install. PowerFlow advised me against even putting a back box in because they say the drone will kill me after a week, thats why i only did the middle box and decats. But i have heard that people like noise boys and TNT, which StreetRacer will advise u on, actually have nice, not too loud, sporty sounds.

I had full free flow (wildcat), stock branches, dastech uni-chip abd BMC filter done on mine

This was on my old 2001 330i E46, and it went like the clappers :)

Hi,

How many cats should my E39 528i 1997 model have?

What to do about sensors and how to locate them.

What would a chip upgrade entail and what is the cost?

Happy Beeming
