I have some cool toys and bits that I play with that some may find interesting. Some have a story, some don't. Just figured I'd post here if I play with something interesting. More for the appeal of guys that like to know what the electronics look like 'under the hood' :=):

E92 M3 throttle actuator

MSD85 (if memory serves) ECU

Pulling software from my M3

Closeup of a MSD81 ECU

Injured on duty

Playing with a JBE

Pulling a eeprom dump from a Cas3+

Older FRM2 module

Bench upgrade for a CIC that got bricked (by me hehe)

Fixing a bunch of MSD81 ECU's

I'll update this thread with more interesting bits as I come across them.

HI Bud
This is Awsome work.

Just for reference, do you fix all types of ecu's ?

Two years ago I purchased a 2003 Renault Laguna 1.8 16v for a good price.
Had only 145 000km on the clock.
Really enjoyed it for the time I had it - space and comfort wise.

Long story short, the car developed an intermittent problem whereby it would just cut out.
I changed numerous parts that mechs/ sparkies said to me and it eventually and it was still doing the same thing.
Boiled down to the ecu.

Eventually , I had to sell the car at an extreme lost just to get rid off it.
Burnt my fingers big time.

Looks hectic!

Quick Q, my car has this annoying beep noise when the door is open and the is key in the ignition, would you be able "shut it up"

My brain starts frying when I see that many components on a circuit board...let alone the shivers it sends down my spine, because i dont have a clue as to what and how those little goodies work. Funny enough, i touched based on electrical at school, but not electronics...the maths was too complicated from my nut.

Big ups...Venturing through your garage was an experience for me...got some cool gadgets and tools going there. RESPECT!

Yeah, I just finished an ECU for a forum member. It started out as a simple 'faulty' oil sensor but turned out to be the ECU that had a problem. This was a super tough one to get sorted but we eventually got to the bottom of it and it's working now.

Point is, there's so much that can go wrong but people get a scare when they hear ECU. This doesn't always have to be the case.

Granted, I've got a very good thing going with the guys from CE here in JHB and they were brilliant in helping me with spare ECU's to use as reference.

That being said, I kinda focus on BMW only for the time being as there's some pretty powerful tools for the brand that can ease fault finding. I think my brain is just too small to take on another brand.

I don't think so to be honest, but I'll have a look. Just remind me if you don't hear from me in a few days. Things went hectic real quick :roflol:

Something else for the Nerds amongst us

A little jig made up of a JBE and a CAS in order to easier test modules on my bench. This is for late E series cars. Next up is doing one for F series cars later this week.

How much knowledge do you have of this stuff? :praise:

I am looking at doing welcome lights to my pre lci e90 and is wondering if you could do the FRM to FRM2 upgrade and coding  :tiptoe:

Thanks man!

Yeah, FRM 1 to FRM 2 requires rewiring. For welcome lights I think you need FRM 3.

But sure, I'll be able to assist you no problem. Send me an email with your number so we can chat.

Ta,

Fighting with an F30 loom. I'm almost there, just one or two last issues to sort out to get the radio booted up. Otherwise, the rest of the 'CarOnABench' is pretty much working. It's crazy the amount of work to get the slightest blip of life coming off the cluster.

And then there was some real work also needed. It's not all play in OBDLand!

Repaired Mini ECU being properly sealed after it was repaired. This one sits open in the engine bay, so a proper seal of the ECU is essential. I'm not taking any chances
