Some questions regarding the 118i

Hey guys,

I recently bought a friends 2006 118i with 100k km on the clock. The car is in immaculate condition with FSH, and so far I'm loving it!

I upgraded from an old Golf 3, so it's quite a leap!

Just some questions regarding the 118i in particular;

Firstly, when the engine is warm and idling, it kinda sounds like a diesel. I spoke to the guys at the BMW service center and they say that its's normal - something to do with valvetronic engines being noiser. Has anyone else got this problem, if it is a problem? I don't always trust what garage mechanics say.

Secondly, what oil should I use when I need to top up? Synthetic?

Hi there,

Mine's the same from when I bought it- I've been told it's the lifters and that I shouldnt worry about it.

For oil I use Castrol Magnatec Professional.
