So, does this mean that there's almost no power difference between the E90/92 335 and the new F30 335

These engines are under rated on paper to favour emissions and other laws.. Bmw did this with the 328i back in the 90's when there was only 1kw diff on paper but on the road the difference was much bigger...lets wait for someone to put a stock e90 vs a f30 on the road...

found a clip...

E90 330i vs F30 335i, that result would be expected.

Thats the wrong clip. A stock 330 is not going to hold the candle against a stock 335.

But the F30 has twin scroll. Much more "potential"? :dunno:

the older audi s4 trumps the new 335i (stock for stock). disappointing.

all the other bmw engines have advanced nicely. this one not so unless i am misinformed.

I don't think it's fair to compare the F30 335i with the Audi S4 anymore. I'm not really familiar with Audi's line-up, but I think it's fair to compare the 335i with the A4 model that's below the S4 (I think it's the 3.0T FSi with 200KW). The M340i will take the S4 on as the S-Line matches up against the M-Performance line. The M135i trumps the Audi S3 IMO.

sorry i disagree. the s4 and 335i are direct competitors and the s4 is much older than the f30 335i.

the old s3 8p was outclassed by the 135i. the upcoming s3 is going to be a handful for the m135i.

anyway, going back to the topic, i think the f30 335i should have offered a bit more. maybe closer to 250kw.

I totally understand where you're coming from. If they gave the F30 335i 250KW (or thereabouts) what would that do to the M-Performance Line? My guess is that they would have to jack the power ratings for those aswell to somewhat justify the premium. It's all about marketing these days, I don't think the insiders at BMW view the 335i as the "top dog" anymore as there is another F30 on the way to fill the performance gap between the 335i and the M3.
