Hi Im thinking of moving my supercharged M3 up to jhb so that I can get more track time ...for fun. Anyone know if this is possible without going to track days or as part of a club? Just for some track driving time to enjoy my setup...not race.

Any leads on how to get this done? anyone wish to join in?

Kyalami specifically is a bit of a challenge, it's pricey, and they don't have weekly/monthly open track days like Zwartkops does.
If you have the budget to hire the track out all by yourself or with a group of friends then its easy of course. Not sure what this costs these days, enquired about this years ago but it was way too much, R50,000 for the day or something stupid like that, wouldn't be surprised if it's much more than that now.
Otherwise you will have to wait for a club to organise a track day and join that.
Next BMW Club track day is this Sunday actually.
MSA license will cost you around R600 (annual)
BMW Club membership R350 (annual)
Time trial entry R850
Check out www.bmwcarclub.co.za for specifics.

You can also browse the other car forums to see what they are doing, last I was on Kyalami was with the VW Club, awesome day, and cheaper than the BMW guys.

I'd say the Zwartkops monthly Super Trax days are your best bet. Everything you need is on www.zwartkops.co.za

Cheers

Had a couple biker friends that went to Pakisa in Welkom about 3 years ago. They hired the track for a day and unless he lied to me the price was R6000. So maybe that is worth looking at. It is more of a bike track from what I understand though.

Phakisa is not just a bike track. Some car clubs do track days there too. I know the good people at Subaru club go down there, last time the entry was R700 and they were looking for 35 cars, so R6,000 doesn't sound right.

It's just far :(

I've taken the trip to Phakisa before... drove 800+/- km one way (from Richards Bay) in the supercharger with semi-slicks and race seats. LOVED the trip ..and the track was a bonus. Its got it all, hairpin bends, fast sweeps and long straights.

Cost just R200 to get a garage in the pitlane and go around the track as many times as you wanted. No timing equipment though... thats only done with clubs by arrangement. But we did our own timing.

Pity about the crazy prices for Kyalami. Would have been an awesome if it was more "accessible". Thanks for the suggestions Johnny8Bit... i'll look at Zwartkops.

Zwartkops would be your best bet. Just be warned due to the lay out of the track and plenty right hander corners, your left front tire will be taking a beating. Make sure your tire pressures are spot on or you could destroy a new Semi in 2 sessions. Camber plates are highly advisable.:=):

Correct. Left front gets eaten. As well as brakes!
Plenty short straights so not enough time to cool in between corners, having your braking system very sorted is a good idea for Zwartkops.
